Official NYU 2012 Transfer Thread

Waitlisted for CAS econ (sophomore)…kinda shocked. I’m 99% sure I would’ve gotten in last year if I applied to CAS.

Stats:
ACT: 32
HS GPA: 3.6-3.7ish
College GPA: 3.82
ECs: mediocre as in some clubs, no leadership positions in college, no internships, one job.
Rec: okay.
I’m betting it’s cuz my EFC is 0 and I needed financial aid.

Doesn’t seem like there are a lot of CAS acceptances this year as opposed to last year o.o

Nope, can’t find the offer acceptance link either. I called admissions today about it and they said it is an error and that we could also respond through the mail-in candidate reply form but when I clicked on that link it didn’t work. I’m gonna assume that the offer acceptance link will appear on Albert once our transfer credits and fin aid appear in the next few days. If not, I think we should give them a call.

Man I still can’t believe I’ve been accepted. I’ve wanted to go to stern for so long, ever since I was wait listed from high school back in 2010. I even dreamed about being accepted, at least five times. Man dreams really do come true. Congrats on all the acceptances! And don’t give up wait listers, keep being persistent. Being wait listed and eventually rejected and then not having enough credits to apply for sophomore transfer fueled the fire for me to apply as an incoming junior.

@Ryancnyc what were your stats and what program did you apply? I’m sorry for your rejection

ACCEPTED TO STERN!!!

@helpmenow11:

I’m also from Rutgers too. are you a rising soph or junior? are you going to be attending Stern?

Lol rejected from CAS. Whatever, I guess this means I’m officially going to Northwestern!
-rising sophomore
-GPA: 3.96
-ACT: 32
-ECs: Scenic designer for various on-campus theatre troupes, research assistant in developmental psychology for Harvard post-doc, leadership positions in humanitarian groups, lots of volunteering, psychology/science columnist for intercollegiate scholarly website, and a few other less significant things.
-Miscellaneous: Won national playwriting competition, AP Scholar with Distinction, Nat’l French Honors Society, six awards in high school theatre, Prairie State Scholar

@cronaldofn17: haha im actually from rutgers too. i applied to stern as an incoming junior. my friend also got in today and he’s from rutgers as well. i guess several of us scarlet knights got in. awesome! where else did you apply to?

@cronaldofn17

I see you got into Georgetown as well. Will you be attending Stern or Georgetown?

Accepted yesterday to steinhardt mcc… 3.95 gpa from a cctop community college. So excited!!!

for those accepted, how long did it take after your acceptance did your transfer credit show up on albert?

@josephyang: haaha thats awesome, Congrats! scarlet knight pride lol. Are you going to be attending? I applied to Georgetown, Nyu and Upenn, got into Nyu and Georgetown. what about you?

@giantmidget: I am not sure, still comparing financial aid packages when they come as well as visiting both the schools.

@cronaldofn17

Ahhh okay. My friend got into both too, but she chose Georgetown. Let us know which one you choose!

@Fly1989 steinhardt released decisions!?

Oh my god so I hate to rain on everyone’s parade but the financial aid for NYU is absolutely abysmal. I mean I had heard it was, but I never really knew how bad.

To give you a taste: I just got $4,500 a year. I am (hopefully) going to Tisch. Tisch is about $66k a year.

Cool so I’ll be homeless forever thanks NYU.

@newyorksnight: hey man it’s ok, i was at lowes the other day, they got some pretty nice cardboard boxes, for a pretty cheap price too. jk, but yea my dad isn’t too happy since he’s the only one who works in my family and realistically he can probably only afford 20-25k at most, so im probably gonna have to take out a hell lot of loans. but man nyu’s my dream tho, so i don’t want to back out cause i can’t pay =/

Hey everyone. Congrats to all of those who got in! I’m a California community college student who just finished his first year. I’ll be applying to Stern this coming fall as an incoming junior, and I was just wondering are any of you that got accepted to Stern taking any summer classes now?

Hi everyone, the credit transfer has shown up finally after the acceptance letter. I applied to Stern as a rising junior. I am from the University of Rochester.

Accepted to Tisch - Recorded Music on Thursday at 11:19am. Transfer credits showed up immediately. I am a freshman and will be starting at NYU as a sophomore.

Stats:
HS GPA - 3.4
Community College GPA - 3.8
SATs - 1780

ECs:
Run my own music website read my industry folk
Interviewed major label-signed artists
Selected as a rising music biz entrepreneur by Capitol Records
+many other ECs ranging from class president to volunteering at a senior citizen home

As you can see, my stats are average at best but my creative portfolio and essays were well done. I can honestly say that my essay about why I wanted to transfer to NYU was not long. It was simple and I spoke from my heart. Just in case 2013 transfer candidates read this a year from now, just know that you do not have to stress over hoping you’re saying the right things. Just be real and genuine. I also had great recommendations. One from my music industry professor and another from a history professor whom I had for two classes.

I am an example of how NYU looks at the person as a whole and not just at education credentials. Technically, I should have NOT been accepted, but I think my passion for the business really came through.

Did anyone else who got on the waitlist receive an email confirmation? The decision letter says you should get one, but I haven’t got one so far!

I still havent received an email !! Should I freak out?

@neslifidan

Which school did you get waitlisted for?
