CautiousPessimism, which college did you apply to at Oxford? did you need an interview as an overseas applicant? i applied to Queen's.
I did a open-admission, so I didn't pick any college...I just didn't know enough about them. And yes, I had an interview at NYC - the very same format as in the UK, I was told.

i was wondering, how common is it for american kids to apply to Oxford or Cambridge?
I'm not certain about this one...since the acceptance rate is around 20%, it's not uncompetitive. But since the Americans that generally look in that direction are just the ones that may have happened to stumble across it by chance, I'm not certain how competitive the pool is. From anecdotal/personal evidence (so take it warily), I don't think many of the best and brightest in the US are too aware of the opportunities offered by Oxbridge, or feel that US universities give them more opportunity, or that it's simply too much of a hassle to apply overseas. The end up at HYPS, instead.

Hey jimmy, oxford decisions are out? Do they notify everyone at the same time? I'm in Singapore and all the oxbridge applicants are still waiting for their decisions. Supposed to be out some time around Christmas...

Personally, even if Cambridge accepts me, I'll choose Princeton since I don't have a clear major in mind and don't want to be stuck doing Natural Sciences. From what I gather, if you are sure about the course you want to take, Oxbridge is a better choice because the lessons are more structured and in-depth than in the US. But if you want a broad-based education, then Princeton will be what you are looking for.

SweetistSith, do you think you can send in your SAT 2 scores and teacher recs and to be considered for RD? In mid November, we had updated information on one of my D's ECs that we wanted considered and I called the Pton secretaries and asked them what to do. They said we could send in an amendment to our EC answer (which we did). They also told me they wanted to give all the applicants every opportunity to present the best of themselves. So if you call the secretaries and explain the situation that the SAT 2s and teacher rec were never received, they just might reconsider your application RD after they receive the information. You sound like an amazing person with a wonderful attitude that will get you far in life. Good luck to you and Merry Christmas too!

the results for Oxford are out for some colleges. also, it depends what subject you applied for. although Princeton is incredible and known worldwide, do you not get the feeling that Oxford and Cambridge are still the original thing? one huge plus about going to Oxford for me is that I only have to pay £2000 odd per annum. which must equal something just under $4000.

Well, the idea has been broached, and I am actually seriously considering it. I'm going to call on Monday and double check that they didn't recieve them, because I'm not 100% positive, I also don't know if they got my mail packet with my transcript and stuff shrug

I was wondering how crazy it sounded though, thanks for suggesting! Makes it seem like more of an idea, if that makes sense, lol. It almost sounds like applying RD after you were rejected ED, and that doesn't really sound logical...Unless it was considered as an application that never got evaluated, which I don't think it would have if they never got all the requirements.

SweetistSith, I think you should try. Explain exactly what happened because it is not your fault if they never received your SAT 2 or teacher rec. Do you have a receipt or something that you had sent the SAT 2 scores? Be sure to tell them you never got notification if missing things were received. There is a secretary there at Pton named Elaine that is particularly supportive and encouraging. Maybe ask for her and explain what happened. There is an admissions counselor there named Roomy (Sp? - don't know how to spell his name but is sounds like "Roomie") that is equally as nice and wonderful and I'm sure they would help you. You are not trying to challenge their decision, you are wondering if the scores and rec were inadvertently missing and affected the outcome. If the scores and rec really did go missing, it seems that keeping you in the pool for admissions should be the likely thing. I wish I could help you call and advocate for you. It wasn't your fault if those things are lost/missing and you sound so wonderful with such a fabulous attitude.
Merry Christmas and God bless you. He certainly does have a plan for your life no matter what. Who knows, if Pton doesn't work out - you might get into other ivies! But please call and have them investigate. I'm rooting for you!

hey you said you were from florida and were at the symposium....did you 1) sit at the same table as the dean of admissions at that dinner and 2) ride the train with me back to Newark and some girl you knew from duke camp or something..you were wearing a freshly purchased pton tshirt perhaps? just curious...

Jimmy, I got the package by US post, just like all of the other Americans. And yes, to tell the truth I do feel that Oxbridge is the original -- because it is. However, an American uni is simply more sensible for me.
