In 2013 there was a thread which showed a strong correlation between getting the email and getting in
There is NO LONGER a correlation between receiving a missing financial aid documents email and being accepted to Princeton. Yes, in the past there was, but as of the past few years there is no longer one. Don’t read anything into it
28 more days y’all
I finally got an email today about an alumni interview… thank goodness.
@RaidoPsymentis @aj1203 there are some good reasons to take AP tests if you attend Princeton:
- Getting to take higher level courses sooner
- For BSE, you can skip the larger, often more boring, general math, physics, chemistry classes
- For AB, you can skip the language requirement, giving you more opportunity to take classes you want to take
- You can graduate earlier if you have enough 5’s (why would you do that?!?)
Check out: https://www.princeton.edu/pub/ap/
My son took every AP test he had a class for (~IIRC he took 12 AP tests, and despite being middle class, we asked for - and received - waivers from the school district for 50% off testing fees, they had a program to help pay for tests, and if after the more needy kids were served, any monies were left over were up for grabs).
Getting AP for advancement allowed him to take more interesting classes sooner, he’ll be able to enjoy grad level courses his senior year if he wants. He didn’t repeat anything at Princeton (he earned 5’s except for a 4 in Spanish). He found if you earned a 5 you didn’t need to repeat that course at Princeton, you were prepared. Yes, the learning and pace is faster at Princeton, but he found it was fine.
So I think, money permitting (see if your school has unused money / waivers even if not classified as needy), it is a good idea to take the AP tests you think you will get a 5 on.
My son found if he tested a 4 or 5 on the Barron’s AP study guides, he’d get a 5, that the Barron’s practice tests were as hard or harder than the real thing. This was 2 years ago so this could have changed by now…
Cheers,
Psy
@MaybeHarvard2022 Thank you very much for clarifying!!! I’d have been going insane waiting to see if it was true and half expecting to get in, while still have the strong possibility to not get in realistically. Good to know that there’s no correlation.
@coolguy985 @MaybeHarvard2022 do either of you have links to posts where this was discussed? I like taking people’s word, but a fair amount on this site seem to spew out unsupported info

@MaybeHarvard2022 Much appreciated <3
Goodluck! When is your interview?
The financial aid office and the admissions office work separately, so no correlation as of now.
@OtterOverlord You can find the 2021 thread about the same topic, some people who got this email are rejected. But in the past (before 2015), there is a huge correlation.
@kaiiiiiii I don’t know yet. Still trying to figure that out with my interviewer.
@yayaylearner Do you apply for financial aid? If you do, when did you turn in your princeton financial aid info?
I turned mine in right after I submitted my application. But priority for submitting financial aid is before mid-February.
@psywar Barron review books do indeed overprepare you for the AP test.
Hi guys, I applied to Princeton RD and did my interview on 18th Feb
@mmstanfordbound How was it? And are you going to Stanford too?
@kaiiiiiii It was a phone interview and it went very well - the alum had just graduated in 2017 and it was pretty chill and we could connect on so many levels
Also, I hope to go to stanford lmao, I had my very first alumni interview from Stanford
Nice to hear it went well! I never received an opportunity to interview with Stanford.
