paradigm- "A set of assumptions, concepts, values, and practices that constitutes a way of viewing reality for the community that shares them, especially in an intellectual discipline. "
plants are predominantely self-feeders but that PARADIGM is reversed by the fact that the venus fly trap is also carnivorous.

its telling irregularity
i can feel it
that was one of the only ones i was + about on that passage

paradigm it is...

if its 164, a whole LOT of people will protest

is there a way on this site or other site where we can patch all the answers up and put all the answers on a single sheet??? it would be much clearearrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

did you put paradigm just2fitz?

dude affie, you cant use ap calc on the psat

no...a whole lot of people will be wrong because they skimmed the question. The College Board is infamous for questions like these and I'm just glad I caught it. It just teaches people to be more careful while taking tests.

On the bright side, it will make the math curve much easier...

Their is no way the answer is 164 ..... I mean this is going back to the 5th grade
Less than .5 - down
.5 or higher - up

That question was the second of the grid-ins and was most likely labeled "easy" .... no way would collegeboard make that kind of trick ....
You have a good argument a, but ur reasoning must be flawed somewhere ... 164.8 -- 165
and MK - you are right! I would bet that 95% of the students who took the test put 165 ... maybe less than 2% put 164 .... if that happens it was the testmakers fault, not ours ..

PSAT does not cover calculus. The answer is 165.

i would be simply astonished if 164 was the only acceptable answer.

integers are not a part of calculus...but during our review at the beginning of this year my calc teacher made a point out of recognizing that when rounding to the nearest integer, you always round down. Look at the graph of int(x) on your calculator and you will see what i mean...

again... int(.8(220-14)) = 164

I didnt put paradigm, I put perpetuated and something else.

enough about math,( the easiest section)

one of the Writing questions i was confused about.
it was IMPROVING SENTENCES

paraphrased "the farms experienced a hot summer and is now going through a sever drought."

i put "went through a sever drought"

I will believe it when I see it allie - its not like I dont believe you, but i just seems so roothless ...... When I get my score in december and it says 164 was the answer, I will give you props and the only person prob in this whole country to get it right!!! however, at this point...i still believe my answer is right .. w/e though .. 1 right or wrong cant affect us too much - good luck!

what were the other choices

affieboy79 , you are silly.

The int function, synonymous to the "floor" function or the "greatest integer function," finds the GREATEST integer of a number. You are correct in saying that the greatest integer in 164.8 is 164, but it is telling you round to the nearest integer, which is 165.

If you can't round, then think about it. 164.8 is only .2 away from 165, but it is .8 away from 164. Last time i checked, .2 is a smaller distance than .8.

So...
"It just teaches people to be more careful while taking tests."

lmao, you are hilarious.

affieboy-

the int( function on the TI-83 is NOT finding a number ROUNDED to closest integer. It "Returns the largest integer <= a real or complex number." (Ti83 manual).

i dont remember other choices, can you tell me if the original was CORRECT?

one of the Writing questions i was confused about.
it was IMPROVING SENTENCES

paraphrased "the farms experienced a hot summer and is now going through a sever drought."

I said the original was correct

you paraphrased it wrong, i don't remember the plural farms. I think it was farm
