@fremontkid: It’s small, but once you get past physics 151/152 (well, even that has improved because there is a new 151 instructor. In the past, the course was a joke OR hard in the wrong way. Once, there was an instructor that did multiple choice exams. Some of the questions were not even appropriate for MC format. The new instructor can apparently convey material and is more challenging than past instructors. The 152 instructor is a joke/inflates, but can convey material well and does make you use the math for interesting situations, so you do learn enough without stressing over grades), the quality actually is pretty good and it’s pretty rigorous. Also, the physics department will look out for you if you are half-way decent (some departments can care less about talent until the talent achieves something on their own that makes the dept. look good, but the physics dept. and several faculty members in ir will point you in the direction of oppurtunity if you show promise. However, there are several tough instructors with high expectations. Analytical mechanics and quantum physics, whoah! Those instructors are very intense, but will go out of their way to help those who show promise, as do almost all difficult science instructors at Emory).
