Official RD Thread

@bernie12 thank you so much! I will definitely go to Essence of Emory since I have not visited Emory yet

Good! Hopefully the weather will cooperate. It will be beautiful and quite festive down here (in Atlanta and Emory). Beware of pollen though lol.

Is this including Oxford as well?

Update: I applied to both Emory and Oxford and while I admit my chances aren’t high (stats are in 25-75%) is it possible to be accepted into both Oxford and Emory, Emory only, and Oxford only? (im guessing you can get rejected from both too)

I was also accepted early  3 other friends were accepted and invited to the weekend as well!

Have to say, I am SOOOOOO glad to be on College Confidential and getting this inside info about Essence of Emory. My daughter just told me, “I don’t get it… other people are already getting into Emory and tweeting about it.” I was able to reassure her the reason why.

I’m African American and no email…does that mean I’m rejected?

@SummerAus, no. I wouldn’t be worrying about it, stay positive!

@lighty thanks! It seems likely though…this is such a stressful week

Agreed jocjarmom. All these schools sending out likely letters, early notifications for scholarship recipients, and hosting special weekends for special groups of students certainly increase anxiety for the rest of the RD students. I get why they are doing it, but it makes it harder for those still waiting.

I got in! Hahaha, I almost deleted the email by mistake, but luckily realized what it was! :)

@SummerAus no, it doesn’t mean anything. They didn’t invited ALL Hispanics/African Americans, the email I received clarifies that.

Has anyone been to this weekend before? Is it worth it or would visiting another time (1week later) be ok?

I agree SummerAus and WestSeattleMom. It is quite frustrating when some get one type of email vs. another, all on the same day :frowning:

I didn’t get an email. I’m first generation American and I’m Hispanic. I’m in the mid to lower end of the mid 25% range for everything. I even wrote my essay on how I’ve committed hundreds of hours working with non-profits to promote diversity, and I didn’t get an email about Essence of Emory? I don’t understand why Emory wouldn’t invite all people who fit into that category to this event? I’m honestly 99.99% convinced I didn’t get in now. So bummed.

my stats are pretty good…but it’s so unpredictable with schools of this calibre

@peke85: Could be somewhat random. I think they basically have to account for how many people they can accommodate (you will have to live with students who are a part of the program), so perhaps some mixture of randomness and space, assuming you all will be admitted.

Hoping its random but everything I have read thus far seems to indicate that admitted AA & Latino students are invited. Those who have received the invite, is there any specific language that states otherwise? Please share.

So is the essence of Emory for first generation college students ? It is listed under programs for :
Programs Supporting First-Generation College Students
When you google essence of Emory . So maybe that’s why ALL AA and Latino / Hispanic students didn’t receive the email today .

I am not a first generation college student, but I did receive an invite.

I am also not first gen and I received the e-mail…

should I call and ask?

Are mixed race students eligible for the invite?
