They’re probably on break but I got a reply saying my major has been changed.

Hm, hopefully that gets changed before the deadline.

A_mom, again, I just wanted to change to what I really want to do. I HATE classes dealing with math/crap like that and I know the requirements for business involve calc and all that other useless math. I just figured if I’m going to go to the college I really want to go to, I better apply to a major I actually want to do.

Sorry, karbl. I didn’t mean to question your change of major after your previous post.

I provided the link only means to clear up that business major is not easier to get in since you mentioned you were told it was easier.
I commented communication major only because my friend told me recently her daughter is applying and is very nervous now since it’s also competitive. You reminded me that conversation and I just wrote it out.

Make sure you follow up with admission office if you don’t receive any response from them, the change deadline is 1/15 if I remember correctly. Good luck!

chance me for engineering?

GPA csu 4.0

SAT (math+reading) 1490

didn’t apply for early decision - just regualr. if extras aren’t great, can I still get in.

Which engineering major?

gotpeter,

i want mechanical engineering

Male from Bay Area
24 ACT
1160 SAT
3.9 GPA
Lots of work experience relating to my major
Lots of Community Work
Business Major

Can I get in?

samuelking, I like your chances.
bacar222, get those test scores up.

:(:(:(:(:(

I say F test scores, lol. Seriously, if some college wants to turn someone down because of ONE test, it’s b.s. You can work hard your whole H.S career, get over a 4.0, have some community service/ sports to go along with that, and a.hles at colleges can tell you your not good enough because of some B. S test? Really?

The SAT has a BUNCH of b.s. math on it (sorry, I took a USEFUL math in finite instead of the useless trig) and are they serious on the reading section? Like how are we supposed to know what some dude was thinking when he wrote a crappy poem 20000 years ago? The SAT is FLAWED, it does NOT show how smart or analytical someone is, and it’s sad that CP looks so deeply into it.

@barcar222

my son is a first year business major and he got in with similar test scores and a 3.75 gpa. we live in slo though and i think that gave him a slight advantage. this year will surely be more competitive though.

Thanks that makes me feel better!

How does your son like the Business program?

karbl- youre only saying that because you got a lousy score. lots of people praise the SAT’s cuz they get in with low GPA’s and a high text score. it can happen both ways.

I agree with the poster above. Using standardized testing(SAT,ACT) helps even out the field of applicants because schools grade differently then others.

Many large, urban, public high schools spit out a large group of graduates with 4.0+ GPA’s, but a majority of them don’t deserve that amount of grade inflation based on their academic ability. The result of this is many kids with 4.0+ GPA’s and low test scores. Ex.-4.1 GPA, 21 ACT

On the flip side, many kids from challenging/rigorous public schools or private schools get low GPA’s but have the academic ability to score high on their standardized testing. Ex.-3.6 GPA, 30 ACT

In my opinion, the ACT is a better test of academic ability than the SAT. The ACT is a complete reasoning test and is more applicable for an incoming college student.

hey do I have any shot for food science?

gpa: 3.65

act: 26

thanks!

agreed bigxcman.
ACT>SAT, it even says that online and in those college pamphlets you get in highschool about applying online.

me, for example, had a relatively low gpa… by the end of the first semester of my sophmore i had a cumulative 1.7 gpa…im from a low income area and started to be involved with the wrong crowd. turned myself around and ended with a 3.65, #54 in my school. i am a very hard worker and have very high academic skills, but i didnt have a 4.0… but scored a 27 on the ACT… ( eh… not as good as i would have liked)

point is, a cumulative test tells you more about the student in most cases

Alright.

Applying to Architecture, I heard it was very tough to get into

Out of State - Omaha, NE
3.89 unweighted GPA
4.26 CSU weighted GPA
35 ACT cumulative
National Merit Semifinalist / Finalist
NHS
lots of service, although that doesn’t seem to matter at CP
Architecture / Art classes at a college preparatory high school
Some work experience.

And I agree with the poster above, ACT is much better than SAT, I didnt do well on the SAT

35 ACT?! Jesus. I mean, admissions are always weird and could easily turn that down, but I’d say you have a great shot, minus being from out of state.

Agree with mattrice92.
Any AP classes? What state?

I’m from Omaha, Nebraska

and I am in AP Calc and AP Spanish
I took a lot of honors classes though, and dual enrolled for college credit for my comp class
