I know. It is just super super weird that it is almost May 3rd and they havent released the decisions yet. I think we just made a record
Yeah because I know there is no way the first wave is going to be May 15…admissions are really cutting it close this year!
@usualhopeful what makes you say that?
@SeinfeldFan1 Rice is my first choice, and I do really like Vanderbilt, but not quite as much. Rice’s financial aid, if I get in, would probably not be quite as strong as Vandy’s, and I’ve already paid the $400 deposit at Vanderbilt. If I get rejected from Rice, I don’t have to make a decision (and withdrawing my app would leave too much of a “what if” for me).
Is Vanderbilt harder than the University itself makes it seem to transfer? They accept 33% or so, suggest a “B+ average” on the website, and say college-work significantly overshadows high school, yet it seems much harder than that to get in.
29% (last year’s acceptance rate) is selective, and it means they probably do have to turn away qualified applicants, but to a much lesser extent than for freshmen.
I think the part about college work overshadowing a flawed HS record is completely true. The best predictor of academic success in college is presumably current college rigor and success. I suspect the B+ average thing mostly applies to students from selective, deflated institutions, since the Vanderbilt GPA at graduation is ~3.4, but who knows.
Does anyone know the likelihood of getting into Rice’s School of Social Sciences/ Is anyone else applying? I’m assuming it would be easier than transferring into most of the other math and science based majors, but I can’t find a single person from any of the older threads that got in or even applied to transfer to this school. I’ve also scoured online to try and find any bit of information on any year that has transfer statistics seperated by school of study and have found nothing.
I’m an applicant for the School of Social Sciences. I have no idea about it being any more or less difficult to get into.
Applying to School of Social Sciences here
What school you choose doesn’t necessarily make admissions easier/harder for you. On the CommonApp, the question asking about your school of choice states that it’s not binding at all, and switching between them isn’t too hard in the beginning. As long as you have classes and extracurricular involvement that back up your interest in that area, you won’t have to worry about major/school choice.
That’s another interesting factor. I used the Coalition App. Who used what applications? I think there were three options.
Anyone knows when the first wave would come out?
@luckybaby The million-dollar question my friend :))
Haha I guess we’ll have to wait until this Friday. @AGoodFloridian
My portal account no longer exists what in the world
Seriously? Did you get that sorted out?
That is really strange. My account is suddenly now associated with the email I used to apply as a freshman last year. I did not touch anything…
@mike0928 I used the Common App
Is this the firsr year they are doing rolling admission? Is that why no one has heard back?
@SeinfeldFan1 Based on their Common Data Set, I believe they’ve done rolling admission for a long time - at least for the recent years, so that’s may not be the reason I guess.
