**Official Rice University Fall 2017 Transfer Thread**

From the Rice 2021 Waitlist Thread

"rice is overenrolled again this year. they’re hoping to get some people to drop out of their class (from other waitlists) to open up some space. they’re likely sending out emails to WL students next week. sorry guys "

Please tell me that the fact that their -freshman- class is overenrolled doesn’t somehow bleed onto their transfer decisions. Please tell me that that wasn’t the reason we haven’t received our decisions yet.

I hope not! If I don’t hear back from Rice on Monday, I’m going to have to sign up for orientation at UTD so I hope they get this sorted out soon :frowning:

Dear GoodFloridan, freshman class overenrollment should not affect transfer decisions for the simple reason that the admissions committee is considering applicants to fill the number of vacancies in the sophomore and junior class as a result of students who have left Rice. Thus, you should be more concerned with the retention rate in recent years and not this year’s overenrollment. Good luck to you, GoodFloridan. I think you and some of your cohorts would be nice additions to Rice.

@Maximilias The freshmen retention rate from last year was around 96-97%. There was 6,740 freshman last year, so that means that around 270 will probably drop out. But I doubt they will accept 270 transfer students.

^^^^^^JK! There are 981 people accepted in the fall of 2016 for freshman. With that retention rate that leaves about 40 seats available. That sounds about right.

@1234pie1234 - Rice does not have 6740 freshmen. The total population including UG/PG/etc is probably 6700. Rice only takes in about 950 - 1000 freshmen every year.

@1234pie1234 , I posted the link to the Common Data Sets in my starting post. There you’ll see a steady increase of admitted transfer students. I predict that this year we can see anywhere from 80-90 people being accepted.

edit: Although this thread has plenty of posts, there are muuuuch less then 90 active users on it. Can you imagine… those spots for each one of us? Ohhh what a gift <3

One can only hope! We all seem very qualified

I doubt that are many more lurking outside the thread watching either

Though I’m not expecting anything, what do you all think of tomorrow being the day of the first wave?

It’d be great if it were, not only for us but for the future classes too. Last Friday of April shifted to the first Friday of May. Not a drastic change, but hopefully it’d stay that way.

I feel like we are going to hear tomorrow but if we don’t maybe Monday for sure. Fingers crossed!

I sincerely hope to hear from them as soon as possible. Tomorrow seems like the most probable option we have now but I do not want to jinx it :frowning:

I honestly cannot wait another weekend! I have no more energy left in me from all this waiting </3

@Sheerio10 You know what helps? Go to a theatre and watch a play, and then immediately after go to a bar, have a drink and some awesome food with a good friend.

That’s what I did and the whole decision anxiety didn’t come to my mind once, even when the plate of rice and beans got to my table!

@AGoodFloridian you know what, that does not sound bad at all! Let me text my friends right now and plan a quick get a way from decision anxiety :)) I hope everyone else is doing Okay! Don’t let this wait kill us!

Praying today is the day we all find out! I think the worst feeling would be not being in the first wave of decisions. Fingers crossed

Pray for us.

GOOD LUCK people in this thread. Lol. Especially @AGoodFloridian
