OFFICIAL Rutgers FALL 2012 Transfer

Was accepted at Newark SAS over a month ago with New Brunswick SAS listed as “in progress.” I checked my application status via Rutgers online on Friday and noticed I was accepted to Rutgers SAS New Brunswick! It was a heart wrenching feeling. The major I’m pursuing, evolutionary anthropology, is only at the NB SAS. In fact, it’s the only college in the state with that particular major.

I’m in my mid 30s, finishing community college next month, holding a 3.6 GPA. I’m also a member of the PTK honor thing and have listed my activities on the application which includes volunteering (trail cleanups, salvation army, etc), and participating in local community events. I’m not sure if this will help anyone.

@NaturaTek, same major, and almost same gpa, i got a 3.5, in my mid thirties too. Hope to see you there.

web site says all applicants will know by April 15th. my page still says in process… What gives?

@norcaltransfer77, I’m not sure why it would say “in progress,” but I would wait till Monday evening. Perhaps the weekend was overwhelming at the admissions office. Be sure to check the status page and that all required items are listed as “received.” Anything not received will surely delay things.

I have been familiarizing myself with all this University lingo and it’s a possibility you might have been “waitlisted.” If so, I would think the admission status would reflect so by Monday evening. You can also email the admissions office and ask if there is anything they might need from you.

It looks like I was accepted on April 13th 2012. That is the date on the status page.

Send me message and I’ll give a couple of tips that I have done (but not entirely sure whether they worked or not).

@Norcal - I wouldn’t worry about it. I was accepted to Camden on March 8th, NB on March 29th and my Newark application also says it’s still in process.

The website says if you are accepted to any campus after April 15th then you have two weeks to give them your decision if you’re accepted so you would have until after the May 1st deadline to make your selection. Newark hasn’t responded to me yet either, but I don’t care as I will be going to NB if I decide to go to Rutgers after all.

thanks SKY2k8336, I just called them and found out that I have to wait until after May 1st since I missed the application deadline. Bummed. I will be accepted on a open slot basis.

Does anyone know when NB sends out transfer evaluations? Still trying to decide between rutgers and ramapo and I’m trying to base it off how much extra time I’ll have to spend at rutgers

@mismoo they said they’d send out the evaluations in May/early summer. And if you have any questions about Ramapo I can try and answer them since I go there now, but I’m transferring to Rutgers cause it’s practically dead here on the weekends and it’s just not the school for me.

Thanks for the offer! Did you try clubs and stuff? Some students there have told me it’s not so bad if you put yourself out there. What makes you think it wasn’t the school for you? If you know anything about how the Accounting majors at Ramapo do career wise that would be awesome. The dean didn’t really want to get into specifics on this topic and it kind of made me worry.

My only Rutgers question is whether or not I can take RBS core courses without actually being in the business school, would be nice to know as it seems I’ll only be able to take 5 relevant classes until fall 2013 when I can potentially be in the business school.

Ramapo is such a small school compared to Rutgers.
Mismo, If you come from an NJ community college then just use NJ transfer. Rutgers is going to follow whatever is said on NJ transfer.
Also, in order to get into the business school, you need to complete all of the prerequisites (intro to financial accounting, business stats calculus I, etc, and you will be completing these prerequisites at school of arts and sciences if you haven’t) Once you have completed them then you can transfer into the business school in the fall semester.

I have friends who transferred from a NJ community college to RBS.

also RBS is way better than ramapo.

I did try clubs and stuff. I joined the bio club, the filipino club (FASA), and I also play volleyball for the FASA intramural team. It’s just that the social aspect here sucks because freshmen can’t have cars on campus and all the parties are off campus. And the reason why all the parties are off campus is because public safety got really strict the past couple of years (due to the four loko incident). The minimum fine for the first time you get caught with alcohol is $200, and you can also get the same fine even if you weren’t drinking and was just in the same room as alcohol. And then it doubles every time you get caught. If you know someone who has a car or if you have a car I feel like it wouldn’t be as bad as I feel like it is. I also feel like if you join greek life you’ll have a better time here too.

Bottom line, in my opinion, Rutgers is way better than Ramapo because it has a great academic reputation as well as social. And Rutgers is better known than Ramapo and I feel like I need that because I’m going to eventually be applying to Med school and for some reason I feel like if I go to a school that has a great reputation and is well known it’ll give me a better chance compared to staying a Ramapo.

And since I’m a science major I don’t know too much about the accounting majors. But I will gladly ask my friends who are accounting majors for their input.

Qwerty is correct. I was planning on transferring to TCNJ from CC but I heard going to a well-named school is better.

Does anyone know if transfers can apply for summer orientation yet?

@isaacxhan Yeah you can. Through the enrollment pathway. I just registered earlier today.

Hey everyone, I’m a transfer too. Went to CC and got my AA, 3.7 gpa and I have 66 credits, they are only taking 31 of them. My whole time at CC i made sure my classes lined up with RU classes and on the transfer site it said that 56 of my credits will transfer, guess not. Be prepared to go through the appeal process, thats what I’m doing. So you all in the fall, a majority of us will be in our own hall on college ave

whats your major?

@qwertypm Thanks! I literally found the registration 5 minutes after I posted that :P

@johnlmescal Are you saying that all transfers will be put into an all transfer dorm? I don’t like the sound of that idea.

Thanks for the response qwerty, honestly I feel like were more alike than you might think considering RBS gets so much more recruitment than any other nj school, I can’t help but feel the extra year I may need to spend in school will def be worth it. It seems like every Ramapo student I talk to either thinks its okay, sucks, or not as bad as people think it is. Whereas with Rutgers its hard to find anyone who doesn’t love it there.

when will the wait listed people know?

I got accepted into Rutgers SAS as a transfer student from a community college and will be attending SAS as a Biology major. However, i heard about the school’s Honors program that interested me. I have a 3.6 GPA with 39 transfer credits, but the schools’s website says that the GPA has to be atleast 3.7. What are my chances of getting into the Honors program with a 3.6 GPA? What about the letters of recomendation, will they help?
