Official Sat I Discussion January 2005

do u remember any other choices for the languid:animation one?

at the botton of ur buddy list click on "chat" then type ur screen name in the invite box and in the box below type in the name of chat room (if u had the native american story, type in SAT NATIVE)

it was entrepreneur.

for the 2 passages, I put sarcastic vs. the other one because the first passage is more sarcastic than it is cynical. But actually, now that I think of it, it might be cynical...

thanks! :)

How do you find out exactly like how many wrong will be a certain score?

i dont remember any other choices but i think its the right answer.
The analogy i came up with was someone who is languid lacks animation just as someone who is shifty lacks honesty

You can't really... I'm pretty sure it varies from test to test. You can get an idea by looking at the raw score-->scale score conversion tables in 10Reals, though.

Xiggi!!! Thank you so much for that posting that the other day... Once I saw the problem on the test... I did it in 5 seconds and got 3.75

it depends on the test. sometimes you can miss 2, and get a 800, but this is extremely rare. you might get a 780 or a 790, depending on how others did. sicne ppl r sayin that it was hard this time, then probably a 790, maybe a 800 if ur lucky

Oh okay thanks for responses. Hopefully it's only 1 wrong hehe. Lol it took me like 2 minutes to do that problem. I just start at like 3 and kept doing some weird steps to find out if it worked then I tried 3.50 then 3.75 which worked.

yeah, thats right. i put it. cuz another one that was close was shadowy:figure, but that didnt' sseem right and the others werent even close. that was a 4/5 too.

BTW, i hit 300!!!

unless if ur goin for a 1600, then even a 780 wont harm you in admissions...only in competiveness among friends and urself

Oh if you call early to find out your score, how much earlier is it? Collegeboard site didn't say.

"unless if ur goin for a 1600, then even a 780 wont harm you in admissions...only in competiveness among friends and urself" - Yeah If I also had like high 700 verbal I wouldn't care lol but my verbal isn't as great.

i had M,V,M,M,V,V,M
the first question from the first math question was something like change 526,920 to the nearest ten thousand, i put 530,000
on the second math section i had questions like 2^4002-2^4000/2^4000. i omitted that one.

that one is 3...i did smaller numbers with ^1000 and ^1002 powers..cuz 4000 wouldnt fit on the calculator and it came out to 3 everytime

i got the same one as u waterlily

I was least confident about the African/Asian writers passage (24-36)

27 schoolteacher was callous/insensitive (B) - labeled protagonist as retarded
29 silence = symbol of repression (?)
31 Kingston's sword = her voice? (E)
34 author's attitude towards people who criticize Kingston's writing: disapprove/reject (E)
36 critics more concerned about socio____ instead of artistic (E)

I didn't take the SAT (I'm completely done :D), but this thread reminded me of how I panicked like crazy the afternoon that I took it. Anyway, just for kicks.......

"many ppl are telling me that the answer is 3.75 but i dunno how that is. can someone explain that to me"

d=30a
d=2b
-> 15a=b
a+b=2
a+15a=2
a=1/8
d=30/8=3.75

30 usage of the word "dominant" to show Kingston's creative use of English by inserting dialects (?)
32 what does the author think about the American (something): A (?)

whoops wrong thread
