OFFICIAL saturday PSAT discussion

are there any good books out there to help with critical reading? i did very poorly on this section. i think the CR will keep me from national merit... with high 70 in math and low 70 in writing. :(

"what was the answer to the writing question that had something to do with the jacksonian administration and transfer the funds of surplus...."

i put down E to. almost thought transfer of surplus was wrong... but why would it be...

as i took the 10 reals i saw college board did put 2-3 E's in a row so i was confident they did this just to make you second guess yourself.

woocollege, i put down the section that had "transfer the funds" or whatever as wrong, i thought it was in the wrong tense

Zach: me too...I got like two no errors in a row, and in total out of the some 14 questions I got like 5 no errors...which seemed like a lot since it's supposed to be ~1/5 NE

what was the answer to the writing question that had something to do with the jacksonian administration and transfer the funds of surplus...."

I put "d," because I thought that the word "loans" following "authorizing" just looked weird - I may have been incorrect, though.

I think I did really bad, can anyone maybe predict what my score could be like with the following (I'm really bad at this!)

2 grid-ins wrong in math
about 10 wrong in CR
and 8 wrong in Writing

I seriosuly have no clue how I did on each section, I'm just thinking about the worst I could have done...

"tender [mouth]"

linguistic subtleties

I think it was (A)

I'm 90% sure this was the answer

i_lose: Yeah, same here, as did most of my friends. That always kind of throws me off, because I end up spending more time making sure that there's really no error.

""What did everyone put for the question on the Dominican passage that had something to do with English and "tender" or something""

I think I put "linguistic subtleties" or something like that...

yeah I put A for the linguistics one too

"tender [mouth]"

linguistic subtleties

I think it was (A)

I'm 90% sure this was the answer

i concur

Woo, I would say about a 203 (worst case, that is, I guess).

got A too, sonar.

So no one really wants my answers to all the questions? Not like it'll help much, since we don't even know what the questions are, unless you remember the pattern of your test sections. Or some nice person took a test from the room and will scan it in.

sorry, i_lose, I won't remember what I put until the question prompts my memory.

blah.... i wish we could get our tests back sooner than 2 months... they should grade tests of everyone who are not juniors on the spot... maybe that would speed things up.

ilose:yes we do

Questions: did anyone choose "model for" (idiomatically incorrect) for one the of the writing questions. Also, was it "there is" or "there are". Lastly, whats up with the question with execrate...I don't remember that one.

Did anyone choose "to a degree" as incorrect? I put it because I thought it was an awkward way to begin a sentence.

asleeacn - no i think that was correct
i chose "indeed"

""Also, was it "there is" or "there are".""

Are you referring to the question about a "teaspoon of topsoil"? I was debating the same thing, but I ended up just leaving it as-is ("there is") and saying 'No error.'

was the "to a degree" sentence the "indeed" one?

yeah...are you sure

Uh...well...CR, first section:

1=A, 2=B 3=C, 4=D 5=E

1 4 4 1 1 3 4 3 (somewhere around the end of SC) 4 1 3 2 5 1 3 1 5 2 2 4 2 4 2 2

which is:

ADDAACDC DACBEAEBBDBDBB Heh....Oh well, I'm too lazy to type the rest of them out now...
