<p>nice way to do the clockwise question was to imagine the segment slowly turning
it obviously becomes the radius of a circle with center at the origin</p>
<p>so letting the segment be the hypotenuse of a right triangle with legs 3 and 4, we find the segment is 5
then when it hits the x axis, y will be 0 and x will be the length of the radius, or 5, but it is negative 5 since the radius crosses the negative x axis first</p>
