***Official Stanford 2013 SCEA Decisions****

So obviously a 2350 and 2380 (cumulative) without any prep has no potential. That's touching to know.

On an off note, does anyone else dislike how insincere the rejection letter seems?

Rejected, o well. I didn't think I'd get in anyway.

Good job, Ykim :)

It does seem kind of unfair, but that's how it is. It's been that way for ages.
Also, don't be quick to assume that everyone who attends private school or belongs to a high income bracket is getting expensive private tutoring. I for one have never had a tutor for anything, and I know many of my friends haven't either. Sure, there are a bunch of kids I know who have tutors for each subject and basically can't get through school without them, but they're not THAT common.

"So obviously a 2350 and 2380 (cumulative) without any prep has no potential. That's touching to know."

What?

OMG, couldn't resist... I'm back...

Tbh tho, its not really about being the best qualified applicants, its more about fitting in with the rest of the pool. If 100 IMO kids applied, half would be rejected... its the way life works...

And please, those who got in, don't rant about how you all deserved your spots. We know you're all very qualified but remember that there are also other very qualified people out there who didn't get in. Its unreasonable to think that you're more qualified than someone just because you got in.

Stop ranting about how high sat scores doesn't equal intelligence, etc as well. I don't gloat about having a 2400 so I'd like others to at least have the consideration not to start slandering people with high test scores. Yes, we know they're not a perfect indicator but then why did you all not get a high score? It does say something, even though it is not a wholistic evaluation. And please, its not like we didn't work towards getting that higher score.

And as for higher income = higher SATs, please how much difference does that make? I took a few days of prep school and found it a total waste of time. Others may find it more useful but in the end, you're still the one taking the test. Also, I could also complain how asians and internationals have it bad and how unfair aa/legacy, etc is. To those who did get an advantage because of URM, etc, just acknowledge it and move on. We know it isn't the only reason you got in and that you're very qualified but do realize that out of 20k people, there are those who were probably just as qualified as you who didn't get in because they didn't have a hook.

Sorry if I offended anyone, I'm getting ticked at people acting superior just because they got in. Yes, maybe fortify was rude but that doesn't mean you have to be obnoxious to everyone else ok?

I got those scores without anything aside from familiarization (and studying a bit of material for the subject tests). You seemed to suggest that they look for potential when judging SAT scores. Thus, it seemed to me they thought I had none.

i have a question. did the people who had sunet ids reserved for them get in? just curious.

Decision: Rejected

let me start off by saying that those of you who have been rejected have AMAAAAAAAZING stats and im flabbergasted that stanford would reject such an outstanding/capable crowd. when i found out that my friend got accepted to columbia yesterday, i immediately started getting butterflies in my stomach and i was freaking out cuz i realized that the stanford results should be coming in any day now, but what the eff they came out on a friday night and totally ruined it! oh well.. i cried and moped around for about 10 minutes and decided to use this rejection as motivation to finish my other apps. :) but dont forget guys, its not the end of the world. :] just keep that in mind!

Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: congrats to everyone, are other schools hopeless now?

Lol, I read through this and now am kind of wondering why I even think I have a chance at Stanford... bah. RD ftw.

@disgradius: Totally agree. We need to look at the whole picture. That being said, having hooks is not the ONLY way to get into these schools; it's worth remembering that as well.

@amciw: Not at all! I apologize if it appeared that way!

Okay, you just meant that lower SAT scores were evaluated in the context of the applicant's school and financial situation, then?

Yes, that is what I meant. With higher scores, there is no telling what went into them. But if a first-gen URM in a seedy public school area got an 1800 or even 1700, will they just throw them out? No; there is even a thread in this forum about that.

I'm just saying that Stanford, in particular from my experience with my counselor and the adcoms, seems to be even more aware of this than other top schools.

I see. So do you think my chances will be more favorable at Princeton and Yale, then?

Edit: For your reference...my rejection post.

Oh I forgot to list my ECs. Suffice to say they aren't international level but they are AWESOME :).
