I think the surprise is good. The Ivy Leagues and MIT you know to the minute when decisions come out, which makes for a very nerve-wracking day or two. It was definitely a looming distraction for at least a week beforehand.

I don’t know if this is Stanford’s intention with releasing decisions earlier than announced, but it is definitely one benefit.

On the other hand, one may argue that with the other schools one can at least prepare to be alone in a room if desired when the decision comes. Stanford probably tries to counteract this by ensuring that their surprise doesn’t occur during school hours for the majority of applicants (aka past 5:30 central).

Also I bet they release a couple hours after the Ivy Leagues on the 31st. I give it a 13% chance that they release on April 1st :).

They know that roughly 94% will be rejected because they have a set number of applicants and a predicted yield. That is the only information necessary to approximate acceptance rate.

@Purepecha: Yes I did, I sent in a fax form etc. the procedure to notify them about new awards and such. Stanford said they were interested in seeing this information from me o:

If it were coming out today, Stanford would post an announcement about it, right? Anyone know, based on previous years’ information, when that would come out?

Doesn’t really make sense that they’d make that post then send decisions out the next day…they’ll probably still be earlier than 4/1, but I’m guessing still sometime next week.

I hope I’m wrong though. I was really looking forward to today ><

It also seems as if Stanford sends the email the Friday before April 1st, and that didn’t happen. So who knows? I doubt it too. I’m just playing Devil’s Advocate.

As you can probably see from last years decision posts, it came out at about 5:30 on March 26th. March 26th was a friday last year. That’s the reason people are assuming it might be today.

@ Sleet: Don’t take it seriously. No college ever releases it at 3 am. Latest I heard was 12 am. lol. Just ignore it and just assume it’s Monday now
