I called them and they say they don’t care when it gets submitted, just that during the last hour it can crash.

I’m from the Silicon Valley!
My five adjectives for Stanford supp. were “ambitious, optimistic, enthusiastic, sociable, and curious.”
I value individuality, but I’m quite opinionated. I try my best to be respectable, and thankfully people don’t have problem debating with me (yeee speech and debate!). But every once in a while, when somebody displays idiotic ignorance/incompetence, that’s when I get a bit steamy…:P

I excel in business, math, and science, yet have interests in law and politics. I’ll see what I can make out of that.
:)

I wouldn’t exceed the word count if I were you. I think one or two extra words, they wouldn’t be too irked, but fifty to seventy is definitely too many.
(I had the same problem but really, you can do it! Mine were all exactly 250 or 240 words hehe)

Hey, everybody- just got back from the west coast yesterday 8D Finally got to visit. IT WAS FANTASTIC. But now it’s application panictiems.

Things I missed…

My college list has finally solidified at Stanford, Brown, Duke, Chicago, the University of Washington, Rochester, Northeastern, UMD, and I feel like there are a couple others I’ve forgotten (not because I don’t like them… I’m just scatterbrained.) SO glad to have gotten it down from 14.

I live in a Maryland suburb of DC, as you can probably see- and I’ll be glad to get out of here. 8D

Info about me… I’m a nitpicky worrier. Hahaha, only kidding, there’s more to me than that… I’m a humanities person who thinks like a scientist and is in a science and tech magnet program despite initially despising the subjects. I’m stubborn, opinionated, and both a nerd and a classical geek (and ecstatic about it). I write, I do MUN (though I’m more of a policy wonk than a debater…), and I’m an eccentric maniac.

I think that’s about it…

Haha loving the descriptions. The people on this thread are nicer than those on the Yale SCEA one. I suggested we do the same thing there, but noone bothered.:/

^

It’d be great to have a competitive Yale Wars v. 2 :D

Seems like we are going to win without any challenge at all :(

^ I dunno about that… they still have 140 or 150 posts more than us, after all. We can’t slack off just yet :P

I just found out this thread. It would have really helped if I had found it a month ago. I feel like I’ve missed on something =(

So, I have a question probably a lot of people have already asked
My ‘why stanford’ is 33 words too long, but only 1251 characters (1527 with spaces), I’ve already removed a lot (I am extremely verbose, if I remember correctly the first draft was somethign like 400 words) and I feel as if everything is important. Should I remove something important to make it fit, or is it okay?

Hello CrazySmiles! Umm I would definitely cut down some words. A few might be forgivable, but 33 is a significant amount (almost 15%) and it shows kind of a disregard for their rules. Cut down all you can! It may be helpful to get a teacher or a friend (someone who can objectively edit) to help you cut down words. Good luck!

@ kaira07: Really, they just ignored your post? That’s sort of odd. But hey, I don’t mind at all that you consider us nicer than the Yale bunch ;)

@wulfran

I was talking more like the 5k+ mark. We are mentally prepared for it, aren’t we? ;)

@fledgling
LOL!

I’ll be submitting tomorrow i think… AHH!

@Fledgling- Yeah they did. Go check the thread.
Anyway, since you’ve submitted your app and all, could you please tell me how you managed to fill in the activities section? There’s no space! So for example, if I’m describing debating, i have just enough space to say I hold xzy post and i’ve won a and b. :/

^

be as concise as possible.
And there’s a space in the writing section where you can elaborate on the most important activity…

AHHHH, i HATE not knowing what the letters of rec say… Gr for the FERPA act.

^

well… the power of the reco lies in its confidentiality. The only sad thing is that not all teachers / schools honor this.

Unfortunately that’s just how the “Activities” section is set up – there’s often not enough space to describe EC’s sometimes, especially when the EC is one in which you’ve won a lot of significant honors/distinctions. That’s why the “Additional Information” section exists – if you feel that there isn’t enough space, type a note in the activity description that says “See Add. Info” or something to that effect.

Same here! It’s rather annoying actually I’m sort of jealous of the people whose teachers let them read the recs willingly.

If I sent my free October SAT score reports to Stanford will they make it on time for early?? I sent them October 16th and according to UConn’s website they haven’t gotten them… so I’m afraid that Stanford won’t get them in time…

Also has anyone who’s submitted their Stanford app gotten an email confirming its receipt yet? The only reason I know UConn hasn’t gotten my SAT scores is because they sent me an email saying they’ve begun processing my application.

Yes. The October testing date is the last one acceptable for the REA round though.

I got mine a week ago. :)

^

I’d totally agree with you. It kind of gives them an unfair advantage…
