[/ul]

Writing (Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects): I THINK I WORKED IT OUT ON THESE ESSAYS! :DDDD
[li] Common App Main: Pretty good. 9.5! I think this essay was magical too. I portrayed my life’s story and somehow intertwined the formation of my character and the emotional distress of my home with the chaos of my room. [/li][] EC Short Answer: 7 I wrote about how I talked with a school custodian in spanish during the past 2 years and how I now tutor her son in english. I mean…I don’t know what you can extrapolate from that.
[] Intellectual Vitality: 10! Psychology + Masculinity + Sexuality + Critical Thinking + Vivacity + Heritage all miraculously coalesced into one formative being.
[] Roommate: 9 Talked about photography and how I’m kinda a lunatic because I can’t really discern reality from illusory thoughts. Humorous in a somewhat oddly profound way. Really showed my personality i think.
[] Why Stanford: 9 for risk. 9 for quality. I hecka proud of this too. I didn’t know what to write in paragraph form because I felt my reason for stanford was too abstract and writing in the sometimes rigid prose would dull the emotion and passion. so I wrote a POEM! Adapted it to a key and very noticeable facet of Stanford.
[] Other:….uh…other what 0o? [/ul]
[li] Teacher Recommendation #1: From my Biology and AP Bio Teacher…I’m sure it’s at least a 10. She loves me ^^; oddly enough. [/li][] Teacher Recommendation #2: From my AP Calculus and Photography Teacher…mild-mannered fellow, but he does like me a lot as well…so I’m honestly sure it was about a 9/10.
[] Counselor Rec: 9. She helped me a lot! And said stanford would be super SUPER tough. When I applied for questbridge she showed me an excerpt, lordy it was so darn flatterin.
[] Additional Rec: Haha…I wish
[] Interview: Nope.
[li] Art Supplement: Oh jesus no…
[/li]

Other[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: Snap…10/31
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] Country (if international applicant): USA
[] School Type: Religious
[] Ethnicity: Nigerian-American
[] Sex: Male; Gender: Ambiguous
[] Income Bracket:
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.)
[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Courseload, Local Context, Essays, Recs, Passion.
[] Weaknesses: Uh…my SAT 1 scores and ACT scores…i’m not even near the ballpark (can I get an Amen?).
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
[] What would you have done differently? [/ul]

Writing (Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects):
[li] Common App Main: personally I think it was awesome. But im not AT ALL a creative writer. So if people reading this are wondering how to make it “awesome” its probably worse than u think. (wrote about Child Health, my volunteer experiences, my interests in international relations, etc.)[/li][] EC Short Answer: Brief, not fancily written. I basically threw it together (I personally don’t think they even really care what you write here)
[] Intellectual Vitality: wrote about governor’s school of international studies.
[] Roommate: wrote about my interests, what I see myself doing on campus
[] Why Stanford: wrote about why I like Stanford. If you don’t have a strong reason, don’t apply. There are people who really want to get in.
[] Other: none [/ul]
[] Teacher Recommendation #1: amazing. She is my fave teacher. She is a club advisor of mine, my AP world history teacher currently and taught a freshman class I had
[] Teacher Recommendation #2: very good in content but her words weren’t…elegant.
[] Counselor Rec: I assume very good although he has about 300 students. I talk to him a lot (probably more than almost any of his students)
[] Additional Rec: from key club adult supervisor
[] Interview: went well. My interviewer was really relaxed. Lasted about an hour. Not my best but apparently it went fine
[] Art Supplement: none
Other[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: November 1st, 2009. supplement sent at 7:23 PM. Common app sent at 7:30 PM.

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, 1st generation college [/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: im usually humble about it but I don’t want to lie-my test scores are amazing. My rank/grades were very good. My teachers knew me very well (both taught me in 2 different years. 1 in soph/senior years and 1 in fresh/senior years. Most of all, I have developed passions throughout my high school career that most high school students do not experience (many people think they are passionate about something but they don’t truly know what passion means yet).
[] Weaknesses: essays were very good but had a few typos.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I think I was accepted because I am very well-lopsided. All of my interests and activities revolve around international relations, public health, child health, volunteering, etc. I guess my life is just very interconnected with everything I do.
[] What would you have done differently?: none [/ul]

**General Comments: congrats to everyone to who got in. sorry to those who didn’t. Stanford is an amazing school, but I’m sure you will be happy somewhere else. **

^Just wanted to say that you have beastly stats, along with great EC’s. I’ve seen very few people with 1,000+ hours of community service.

Ur funny–you should get in on your sense of humor, alone. Stanford was hot after my daughter, and she was uninterested. She didn’t want to go to college in her own backyard and while she had a great time (and got grade grades) at Stanford’s High School Summer College, this past summer, she thought the school lacked vibrancy and intellectualism (there were a lot of Texas Republicans in her program who were aiming to apply and got in).

She heads off to Boston, we found out a few days, ago, thrilled and thrilled with her ED acceptance.

Best of luck to you and know that there are wonderful schools outside of the 8 Ivy league schools and Stanford. Really!

General Comments:
Comment on my decision!

Sorry I know this thread is for official decisions but I had to comment:
Congratulations to those of you who got in, you guy are amazing and all deserved it, I only hope I can post on a similar RD thread.
To those of you who didn’t get in, you’re all awesome nonetheless (rejected with a 2370?! :O) and I’m sure you’ll love wherever you end up going.

What I gather from this thread is that Stanford loves people with an interest in science/computer science and they definitely seem to favor them. Obviously they love initiative and entrepreneurship and I think they seem to really value class rank over test scores/ GPA. Essays also seem extremely important, more so than in other schools and I think they like frankness/emotion. I’ve already submitted my application but hopefully this will be a useful summary to any other applicants (though it is just my reading).

Is anyone willing to chance me?

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: essays, piano, recommendation
[] Weaknesses: the ACT & SAT II scores, and GPA
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I wasn’t accepted because my application made me hard to pin down; I wasn’t even ‘well-rounded’, just all over the place. I wasn’t rejected because my writing style probably made my essays come alive. Honestly, if it wasn’t for the creative spins I put into the essays, I would have gotten flat out rejected. My recommenders were pretty good writers too, so that definitely helped.
[] What would you have done differently?: nothing really. I don’t regret this, even though I know I won’t get accepted in RD. At least I know I was good enough for them to keep around for the next round.[/ul]
