@med3398 Thank you! I really do hope I get an offer off of the waitlist, but only time will tell!
Hi all. I got my Youngstown acceptance Monday, so just wanted to let you know that they’re definitely out there. I wish everyone the best.
Hi. Just received the snail mail from NEO stating placement in ‘Alternate’ list. Still have ot received any letter fro YSU (the other UG interviewed). Not sure how to read this delay -!!.
@eduthiast Any thoughts?
@Pannaga
You can’t assume anything until you receive the letter. I know it’s tough to just wait. I wish the UG schools would use email followed by snail mail to inform the applicants.
@eduthiast,
Hi, Last evening we got a call from a friend that, their friend had received our YSU letter (yes, my sons name but the other kids address!). The other kid also had attended YSU interview. Anyway after getting that letter back, we found that YSU has rejected. That leaves with Akron ‘Waitlist’ and perhaps a 2 1/2 month wait (Class start on June 12th I heard on this site somewhere). Thanks all of you.
@Pannaga Sorry to hear. Wonder why NEOMED still living in the old age by sending postal mail and making such callous administrative mistakes. Hope your DS gets in to Akron. Last year also folks had many funny posts, if you are in Midwest expect in a day and rocky mountains in 2 days and CA 3 days to get the postal mail. It appears they have no plans to move out of postal mail when email can handle the need.
@Pannaga wow what a nightmare. My DS will not likely not accept his NEOMED acceptance so that should leave one more spot for something from Akron. gl
@kkfields
Appreciate your letting know. Hopefully people like you who have decided to go to other colleges will let the Akron/Kent / YSU college (s) know by the March 31st (being considerate to others), so the uncertainity can be minimized.
Yeah I really hope people who are passionate about NEOMED make their decision ASAP, while those who are not interested also make that call quick. Lots of anxiety when people choose not to go to NEOMED, but just delay their denial of acceptance until May 1st. Hoping for the best! Good luck to all!
just accepted my spot for akron 7 year
Congratulations @bunny101!!!
@bunny101 Congrats and thank you for posting the stats in 2017 results thread. Any reason why you did not apply to Wayne State BA/MD program being in MI? Did NEOMED give scholarship only for UG 3 years at Akron or did you get any aid for 4 years MD? Your input will be useful for future students/parents.
wayne state bsmd is an amazing program and i wanted to apply since i was little because its free for all 8 years and wayne is a great med school, but recently they changed it to make it available to people of low socioeconomic backgrounds or people who have faced challenges in their life so i decided not to apply to it for personal reasons i guess and didn’t really feel it was right for me to apply (i dont know how to word my thoughts on that) akron is giving lots of money by credit i believe for four years even though i will graduate early, and i have to see about the MD aid once i get there but i have lots of friends in the program from MI who will help me get some help with that @GoldenRock
@bunny101
At Akron, is it the 7 year BSMD or the Honors Buckhingham scholarship u got. (which does NOT assure direct entry) but has a very good scholorship. Even better than the ‘credits’ u mentioned. Guess u r talking of the 6-7K credit / UG year.
@Pannaga we are not going to be accepting the NEOMED offer, so good luck!
@kkfields
Appreciate. Are u instate or OOS?. As the % Quota for instate / OOS will not be swapped. However either case should help some anxious candidates.
Hello guys. I realize that this thread has been quiet for quite some time now. I remember that Akron had an early deadline for the decision of April 1st that could be extended to May 1st if needed. I was wondering if anyone has been pulled off the alternate list yet? Also, for someone who got waitlisted to both Akron and Kent, do you think I have a chance of being pulled off the waitlist in May (note that Akron still takes 35 but Kent only takes 25 now)?
Can anyone share some insight on why NEOMED is getting rid of their BS/MD program? My DD is a junior and we are looking into BS/MD programs for her.
@TheLight21
Still on Akron waitlist. Was told by councillor (2 weeks back when contacted) that ALL Akron recepients have accepted.
@bsmdhopefully I have family who has gone through the BSMD program at NEOMED, and they have told me that they are getting rid of it for many reasons. They say that by combining all of your undergrad into two years, BSMD students don’t get as strong of a premed/basic science foundation as they would in 4 years. Also with the change in the MCAT in 2015, they have mentioned that the new MCAT is more difficult, and students are having more trouble passing due to having what would only be a year and a half of class before they have to start taking it. They also brought up how some (not all) students coming out of high school don’t have a true feel for medicine, and end up in the program before realizing they made the wrong choice. NEOMED is still going to have some early assurance options, but they are with colleges relatively local to NEOMED and you apply your sophomore year of college. They may get more dedicated students this way, who are more set on the MD career path. These may not be the real reasons as none of my family telling me these things are NEOMED faculty, they are alumni.
Also to those waitlisted, from talking to other admitted Kent students, I know not all the BSMD seats have been formally accepted. May 1 deadline is soon approaching though, so I guess it’ll all be figured out soon! Wishing more luck to all of you!
