@upstream stats on fame at utsa and any information at all on u of houston 3/4 medical program would be really helpful!

@rupa1967
SAT: 2220
ACT: 34
GPA: 3.868 (weighted)

My son received Union/AMC supplement today. It has a question “Describe yourself (other than scholastic achievements).”. Isn’t this same as the question for union supplement "Share something about yourself that does not appear in your application. (Limit 150 words) .

Can someone share what you are doing ? Can we send the same one he wrote for Union to AMC. Do you think AMC admissions people have access to Union application. Any advice please.

UAB EMSAP (I’m a current student in the program) definitely does not have in state bias. They have equal quotas for both in state and out of state kids.

@bsmdcan , I do not think this question was in union application. It was in CWRU app!

@mangoes9, for UTSA program- 24 applicants, 14 interviews and 4 enrolled.

@Dildil you scared me for a second. I went and looked at Union college supplement in CommonApp. It does have the option of submitting one of the following essays. Union common app optional supplement with the following options:

• Answer one of the following questions:
o Share something about yourself that does not appear in your application. (Limit 150 words)
o What question do you think a selective college should ask and how would you answer it? (Limit 150 words)
o Given the opportunity to conduct research at Union, what project would you choose to explore? (Limit 150 words)

@upstream that doesnt sound right…only 4 enrolled? currently fame has around 20 students in each class i believe.

I am sorry that I scared you. But it does not matter, you already got the AMC supplement like my son did

I checked again, and I since the app is already submitted, he cannot see the other questions. Actually, you have to choose only one question from all three you listed. My chose to write about research project.

I am wondering how do you still have access to all three questions since my son is not able to see the questions he did not choose to answer.

@TheShmiShmi , My son got the Elite Blazer scholarship from UAB. It would be great if he gets accepted into the EMSAP. We are out of state.

What did you think the correct length of resume be the best. I have seen some places that a resume should not be more than two pages. How long was yours ? Thanks

@upstream - how many seats do they have? 4 registrations sounds low unless they offered lot more applicants and many went elsewhere.

@upstream @texaspg have friends and family at fame. its definitely more than 4 students. does anyone know if they have a fixed number or do they adjust number of acceptances based on number of applicants?

They told me 40 interviews and 20 accepted for UTSA

@mangoes9 class rank?

@rupa1967 not in top ten percent; school doesn’t rank past 10%

@upstream any idea what happens in the interview at the UH 3/4 program??

As far as UTSA program is concerned, the total number of students in the program is 20… so each year, the number of new students could vary from 4 to 6. I have pasted the names of 20 students who are currently in the program.

Facilitated Acceptance to Medical Education (FAME) Program

In a response to the University of Texas System Request for Proposals to develop innovative and fully integrated pilot programs which lead to the award of both baccalaureate and Doctor of Medicine degrees, UT School of Medicine at San Antonio and the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) have partnered to implement an innovative program.

In order to meet degree requirements set for all college graduates in the State of Texas, core courses have been interwoven into a fully functional, collaborative seven year curriculum with the end result of graduating physicians (Facilitated Acceptance to Medical Education [FAME] Program). This shared project utilizes traditional course structure, team taught courses, as well as innovative seminar courses structured on disease related experiences. The development of the program was careful to provide opportunities for students to exit the program should their interests take them to any number of other health related fields.

The FAME program will recruit and admit highly qualified students. These students will benefit from an accelerated degree program, and innovative curriculum, early immersion into medical education and professional identity formation, and a decreased overall student debt. Once implemented, the FAME program will play a positive role in helping to address the healthcare needs of Texas.
