@jumbletumbles If your son already gets in Princeton, he must be very bright and will easily get into a good medical school of his choice and likely to get scholarships for medical school.
Did anyone here apply to Wayne med-direct?
@Mocha16 I highly doubt thereās a dim bulb in here!
I did @thelittlechica.
@thelittlechica If you are referring Wayne State University BS/MD program, that program is not offered this year. Also that medical school on probation. There were few posts few months back.
@goaltobemd Please PM me your profile as well. DD is interested in BS/MD programs for next year.
@4beardolls please check your PM.
@GoldenRock they started a new program this year that covers tuition, room, and board for undergrad. As well as medical school tuition.
@GoldenRock, I believe youāre referring to the now defunct MedStart program at Wayne State. @thelittlechica is referring to the Wayne Med-Direct program:
@Roentgen Thanks for the information, But I donāt believe anyone here is from a low-income family.
GW update:
BA/MD applications received: 1100
Candidates invited for interview: 20
All interviews were held on Feb 1st.
Of the the 20, they will send acceptance letters to 10 students.
interesting how the ratio is about one of two in a lot of these program once you hit interview phase
@Roentgen Thanks again for your diligence and what you contribute to this forum.
@thelittlechica Thanks for letting this forum to know about it. As a regular reader of this thread I did not see any one had any post on this so far. If you have applied good luck and share your experience for future students.
(Interesting, I did my masters in Wayne state, of course many decades ago)
@Roentgen Iām from a low income familyā¦
@GoldenRock the info on the website wasnāt super thorough, but the application deadline was January 15 and interview notifications were sent on February 1st, so it was a really quick turnaround time.
Interviews are being held February 27 from 9-430. Iām definitely looking forward to it, but have no idea what to expect.
@HS2DirectMed thanks for the 2016 GW update (Stats⦠# applications, # invited for interview, etc.).
Any stats on other schools: PLME, REMS, PPSP, HPME, Rice-Baylor, etc.?
Anybody?
@GoldenRock, no problem! I actually had to Google it myself as I had absolutely no idea the program even existed. I knew Wayne Stateās medical school stopped the MedStart program suddenly after being put on probation by the LCME accreditation committee this past year. This new program seems to have just started this year. I think itās absolutely wonderful that Wayne State is doing this.
@Mocha16, yes, I would say especially now more than ever, on average, most BA/MD applicants on College Confidential tend to be the offspring of the relatively affluent, but it is still a BA/MD program nonetheless. I just brought it up just to clear up things about Wayne State having a combined program as there was slight confusion on the thread.
@thelittlechica, I think you might have meant to tag Mocha16. Thank you for making even us seasoned veterans aware of this new program! Have you gotten any instructions on the interview at all? Wayne State still does traditional interviews at the medical school for traditional applicants, so yours will likely be similar: http://admissions.med.wayne.edu/application/interview.php. If youād like you can PM me with any questions, as back when I interviewed at UMKC (a different program, but still) for the BA/MD program it was traditional interviews, so I can give you some tips, and maybe links to resources to help.
folks
the income status is not critical
I do understand the amount of resources may help get you material goods but i personally came from low to middle income family and my family of myself, sister and sister went through the program
SO i feel the income aspect is immaterial per se
@thelittlechica Very happy for your upcoming interview at Wayne State. You sound very smart and you will get in. I am happy that there is a program like this to cover all the college and medical school expenses for a bright student like you. You will graduate without a student loan. It makes me smile just thinking about it. Sincerely happy for you.
