Q1: Beyond CommonApp isn’t there a BA/MD specific application for GWU? Sorry I searched for 30+ minutes and couldn’t find it.
Q2: Is there FAQ for GWU BA/MD program that I am not able find in my searches, if so please point me. Contact info would be great, there is very little on their website.
Q3: What level of funding is offered to the members of this program.
Thank you so much bearchichi, I was just worried since my gpa was sort of at the low end. Also I’m doing miami this weekend, sent in the stuff last week.
@HoustonTxDad GWU is single app college for BA/MD program. But has few prompts/essays to be completed in the common app once you select this program. It needs SAT II for Math2 and a science subject. There is a mention for National Merit but exact amount or for how many students they give is not clear.
@ DVRVARMA123 - Applicants applying in the fall of 2015 will have the option to go through 6 yr. programs at NEOMED. Starting next year, they NEOMED BS/MD will only be a 7 year program.
Greatly appreciate if any one could share, typically how many students NJIT takes for the BS/MD program. Since my D. is planning and need to apply by this week before 11/15, any quick response well really help to decide. Sent few mails to NJIT and did not get any response on the number of students. Thanks in advance.
@bearchichi Thanks a lot for the information. Anything < 5 is going to be hard and jack pot only if you get. Assume the second item you are referring is TCNJ/NJIT. My D has applied for that already. She is not considering any Caribbean island program.
Is tcnj/NJ Ms application has any additional supplement to fill outside of common app. We see no question for any essay like most other here nor are any further supplememt
@GoldenRock : total seats in NJMS are 20 from all undergrad institutions. TCNJ has the max feed about 10-12. Others together make up for the rest. NJIT averages about 3.
@goaltobemd, I don’t know if you’re joking, but your GPA is not on the “low end” by any means (I’m going by the unweighted GPA here). Your standardized exam scores are stellar. I think you have a really great chance, but I would apply to a variety of BS/MD programs (reaches, high-tier, and middle-tier) since a lot of the times getting an acceptance can be a crapshoot. I would exhaust all the BS/MDs in your home-state if you come from a state with a lot of them available.
But I would go for Northwestern, Brown, Penn State/Jefferson, Case, Pitt, Miami HPME, BU SMED, Rice/Baylor, UCSD’s BS/MD, VCU, etc.
@Roentgen, Thank you for your encouraging words. I can’t apply to UCSD since I am not a resident of CA. I am applying to the others but not VCU. Should I mention I am participating in Intel? Eventhough I wouldn’t know if I will make it to even the semi-finalist list?
@goaltobemd, oops, sorry about that. I forgot the UCSD program is only for CA residents. I think it wouldn’t hurt to mention that or to put that on the application. Just be honest with how you word it, since Intel is probably on a specific timeline. But yeah, you have the grades and definitely the scores, your active participation in athletics, music, your cancer research with publications, and having had healthcare exposure with physicians and hospitals, etc. will put you on a good track with respect to checking off all the right boxes that the real competitive ones want to see.
I don’t know if you’ve applied to some of Drexel’s BS/MD programs as well, since you said you’re in the Northeast. Another possibility is GWU’s 7 year. UConn also has one for Conn residents. You could also apply to the lower-tier BS/MD programs, but honestly, I think that would be selling yourself way short and in that instance, you’d be better off applying traditionally and getting into a stellar school (based on your past history) or a school that gives you a lot of merit financial aid, vs. a bottom tier med school thru a BS/MD where you get relatively nothing, but that’s just me.
@Roentgen, Thank you for your feedback. Yes, I have applied to Drexel and plan to apply to GWU. I have not applied to SBU or VCU only because like you said I dont want to compromise on the undergrad school too much. Truly appreciate your detailed guidance. I am sure I will have more in the coming weeks:) Thanks again
All: In case if you have not heard about it, UCSD has decided to stop the BS/MD program. So California has no single program for BS/MD as of now. https://ucsdms.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/
