Thank you @upstream for guiding on how to get statistics for each program. I have covered most program if not all here for 2015 acceptances or 2014 acceptance, where 2015 data was not available. Read it as follows. In state, Out State, Total. Number of applicant, Interviewed, enrolled (This is not accepted, accepted student number could be higher) Along with GPA. SAT. ACT data for average student accepted for the program (This is not requirement, it is average of students accepted. Requirement to apply may be lower), where ever it was published. Here you go. Store it for future reference, so you don’t have to search this thread all the time.

@kybron
Most would disagree that REMS is better than HPME however all that is a mute point as it comes down to a very personal decision. Go with your gut and heart as you will spending considerable time in the program (8yrs). REMS is also a top tier program so congrats once again.

Most people consider HPME and PLME are the top 2 programs, but I think one should go with their own gut feeling and see which one is a better fit. I have noticed UofR has excellent match results, but lot of people think it’s a remote location (and may be all study no play :slight_smile: ). Chicago is going thru huge crime crisis, so not sure how much that should be factored.

@srk2017
I agree. I do also understand @kybron personal requirement to avoid an accelerated program as my sister (PLME) had the same requirement. She did not even apply to HPME after getting the supplemental application because of that. She only applied to PLME, REMS, and PSPP. She was blessed to have and liked the interviews at both REMS and PSPP and surely would have been happy with either one of them.

@kybron Good luck at REMS and enjoy the winter/snow (skiing etc). Are you from west coast ?.

@kybron Short warm summers :wink:
My father lived in Rochester for 7yrs, Xerox. We now live in FL. I loved visiting Niagarra Falls (short drive). UR Simon school of business is very good for MBA in finance.

@Volunteerism - I am also not in favor of accelerated programs. Average avg of admitted students @ medical colleges is 24 now and my S would have been 20 had he opted for a 7 year program.

@srk2017
Yup, Enjoy as much as possible your UG BSMD will get you into Med school at a younger age than the average anyway

Very understandable from students point of view to enjoy all 4 years of undergrad instead of the stress of an accelerated program. However from a parents point of view that one years saving on tuition and fees carries a lot of weight.

@Empire007 - you are already committing $1/2M for BSMD program, another 60K shouldn’t be the deciding factor :slight_smile:

@Empire007
Absolutely! $ is definitely a very important factor however if accelerating becomes an unmanageable or too risky to the core objective (becoming an MD) then the cost avoidance (partial savings from overall cost) becomes a lower priority in the big picture.

@srk2017 it’s not that much at least for us. But not having the additional year saved us about 15% off the total. Everyone’s situation is different but for us it was important.

@Empire007 Money is important to most of us but in the scheme of things (one year delta savings) not THE FACTOR to becoming an MD.

@empire007 - I understand everyone has their own financial or risk tolerances, but to me 15% savings shouldn’t be a deciding factor for most. Some one said they can start earning one year early and compound that over 30 years and they can retire few years early. That idea sounded interesting to me in the beginning :slight_smile:

Has anyone applied for/ been accepted to EMSAP at UTMB? Already interviewed but still waiting for a admission decision.

@IfnousWHO I’m not saying it should be, all I said was for some parents like myself it was very helpful to not pay the additional year of undergrad. No parent is going to want to put their child into a vulnerable position just to save some money. So far thank God no indication of things being unmanageable for our DC.

@Empire007
Agreed. It depends on the specifics (student and BSMD program requirements)

@Empire007 We are aligned

@curiouskid1 So far I have not seen any posts related to EMSAP at UTMB. Since that program is very focused (Only Tx Residents and for economically and/or educationally disadvantaged), not many knows about it. I assume you are specifically inquiring within that for the HS students related option. Call them or email them if they have not already given you the dates for announcement. GL.
