Official Thread for One-Year Transfers

that major is kind of tough to do in 1 year, so I’d say no.

You’ll need to do these in different semesters:
gen chem I
gen chem II
organic I
organic II
that’s 4 sessions alone.

I’m not even including the physics I, II, III (each with labs), calc I, II, II, DE, LA, and bio classes.

yesssss one-year transfers
I’m transferring from a CSU. applied to ucla/ucb as a comparative lit major.

…and I have a question! did you send your AP scores (via collegeboard) to the UCs, in addition to listing them on the application? is it required?

to steal the other thread’s title now that fall is over what is your guys’ GPA for fall the only thing we are going to be judged on.

mine is 4.0 or 3.8 depending what I got on a final

my gpa is 4.0 with fall and summer classes as well as concurrent enrollment courses while in high school…still not many classes though lol

I’m so stressed…I could have an A in English or I could have a C, the teacher is SENILE and never gives any indication. His grading is totally arbitrary.

I got a 3.87 for this fall I think?.. straight As with 1 B =( ugh polisci killed me.

It’s awesome to see how many 1 year transfers there are. They are really rare at Berkeley which is why I apparently stand out for some odd reason… :/

I skipped 2 years and transferred with a 4.0 but I can’t say I “stand out”, largely because I never developed the ego that you guys did. It rarely comes up, frankly.

hey guys goodluck to all of you.

i am a business econ/ econ major

i already ahve 24 ap units that will count toward IGETC and prerequisites.

Summer- 3 units

Fall - 18 units

winter - 6 units

spring - 16-7 units

my current gpa is 4.0 (from summer). but i think i got 1 b and 4 a’s in fall so it will go down : [ there goes my perfect gpa

nicolemay, I was wondering that too! anyone know?

Woah, I am a ChE/Materials Science major and I definitely don’t need that many pre-reqs. Gen Chem I and II I need, but Organic Chem is recommended only if you can show a good score on the national exam (forgot the name). I am transferring in one year and AP scores can’t exempt me from General Chem so I am not doing Organic at CC. I am exempted from Bio 1A + 1AL due to AP Bio. I am only required to take Physics I, Calc I, and Calc II; I do need two other major courses though (I chose Physics III and Calc III). I also need English I and II (could have exempted myself from I with a 4 on English Language but I got a 3).

The only time I have seen such a long list of reqs was from UCSD but counselors say that SD isn’t strict about it.

How many credits do community colleges give for AP classes? Is it 3 for each?

it depends on the school you’re transferring to, not the CC, how many credits you’ll get for the APs. UCLA gives like 8 qtr units for english, the histories, calc, and 4 for env sci… check on the school’s site.

ugh i have a 3.722, 4 As and 1 B for fall. I had no idea that a B in a 5 unit course is worse than a B in a 3 unit course, no one ever explained that to me. -__- Is that the same gpa the UCs will see or do they weigh all classes equally or something? I’m taking 7 units over winter… i better get As in those. :P

bookworm: I’m guessing we don’t send in AP scores until we are admitted?.. I don’t know. I’m going to treat it like my final transcripts I guess. I’ve scoured the forum for answers but haven’t found one so far.

nicolemae, see this thread for an answer to your question from an official UCD Rep.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/740563-sending-ap-scores-questions-transfers.html?highlight=Scores

In other words, wait until you get admitted and send it around the same time you send the IGETC, CCC transcripts, etc.

i have a 4.0 so far . . . did have to take an incomplete for english b/c i was hospitalized on the day of the final, but it’s not a required class and i can make it up in spring. only thing i’m worried about is only having 12 credits on my fall schedule now . . . do you think that will seem lazy? i have 5 more credits from a summer chem class (got an A) two years ago and then 28 units from AP and 20 more to go . . .

scratch that, that buttface gave me B. so a 3.85 from 20 units now . . . ugh :(

so, now that our grades our in what do you guys feel our chances are…i took 19 units 4.0 chances at ucla and cal anyone?

@nothingatall they use the same GPA u see, units matter here, in HS everything was worth the same amount of units, so it came out to be equal.

btw does anyone know if we have to graduate in 2 years at ucla n cal?
personally I would like to be at one of those schools for 3 years taking the minimum coursework necessary in order to maintain a high gpa while having a pretty active social life/ time for ec’s plus i would be graduating at the time I normally would
