Official UC Berkeley 2015 Transfer Thread

@ocnative‌ omg that is really to know. I’m from San Diego. Kinda sucks that I would not able to see the campus

It is important to visit the campus before making any decision. I cannot stress this enough!

I was hoping to visit the campus on the transfer day :(. kinda sad that berkeley doesn’t have an official day for transfers not like UCSD or UCLA

Berkeley does have an official day for transfers. Even more, Berkeley has an all day program for transfers just like UCLA has (not connected to the transfer day). In addition. all CCCs have a trip (with a bus) to highly ranked universities around California for small amount of money that covers basically the hotel/motel and some gas for the bus - check with you transfer student center at your college.

Anyway, there are campus tours that you can reserve online regardless of transfer day or not. You can take Jet Blue flight for $50 each way from anywhere in California and see the campus for $100 total and about 2 hours flight (an hour each way)

I’d like to know where that jet blue flight is. :))

I can’t find that deal :frowning: @moshe1010. btw, my college doesn’t have that trip. my cousin is going on a trip like that because his high school has it. Is it Socal day ?

I remember that deal in 2010.

@lindyk8 I fly all the time from Oakland/SFO to LGB/LAX for $50 each way. You just need to play with the dates (you can do it on JetBlue’s website). When it’s super impacted (like now, during Spring Break), one way could be $100, but that’s about it (my current ticket was $100 to LGB and $50 back to Oakland).

@boy561 I guess it depends on the college then. They often don’t publish it anywhere and you need to apply/register several weeks before (they go on Spring Break).

@moshe1010 I live in the bay area. I never find these deals. I will have to look more closely. I just wish JetBlue didn’t make that deal to only fly into LB.

I checked it again today. Unfortunately, jet blue doesn’t have any flight to or from San Diego to Oakland/ San Fran. Guess I just have to choose other airlines

southwest is the way to go!

If Virginia America is there, that’s my fave,

Freshman decisions were posted early this morning! Do you think transfer decisions will also be done during the day, or in the evening?

Transfer has been stated to be done April 24th in the evening. Anybody got plans on celebrating if they get in?

I’m applying as an inter-UC transfer from Riverside, so I know that my chances are already pretty low. I applied as a Political Science major, with an interest in Nordic (Finnish) politics, and to double major in Sociology. Due to a major screw-up in fall quarter (which I acknowledged in my application), my GPA went from a 3.74 to a 3.6, but now it went up to a 3.67.
I’m in the honors program, volunteer for the university’s sexual assault program, am a student task force member for UCOP’s Task Force on Preventing Sexual Violence and Sexual Assault, and did an internship at the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission the summer before coming to college. I also volunteered extensively at my local library during high school.
I went to a French immersion school Pre-K-12, so I’m fluent in French, I have a basic proficiency in Spanish, and I’m extremely interested in learning Finnish.
One of my essays focused on my strong interest in Finland, and how it’s shaped me as an individual, and the other was about my high school political science professor and how he influenced me to study polisci. I’m really hoping that my interest in Finland influences their decision since they’re the only UC to offer Nordic studies (besides UCLA, but they only do distance learning for Finnish), and one of the only universities in the country to offer it.
Going to Cal would be my dream, as I grew up in San Francisco, and Riverside is soooooo different from the Bay. I still miss it to the point that it severely affects my mood. Plus my boyfriend goes to Cal and I would love to not have to deal with the distance anymore

@Calgirl95‌ I rarely chance a person but the minute I saw “Nordic” on line two, I thought, yep, she’s in. Everything you are writing about sounds terrific to me. Truly, you’re a breath of fresh air, with unique interests that have a global perspective. Plus, you’re multilingual. I’m just going to throw caution to the wind and say I think you stand a really really really good chance.

Okay so decision day is approaching and I’m getting nervous! :-SS
I’ve been noticing through these posts that a lot of you are very knowledgable about the whole admissions process… So I would highly appreciate if anyone is willing to chance me so that I can relieve some anxiety haha. Please and thank you

UC GPA: 3.87

IGETC: Will be completed after the current spring semester (language course in progress)
Pre-reqs: Completed
EC: I’m a member in two honor society clubs- AGS and PTK, I have 100+ volunteer hours at UCLA hospital, and I’ve volunteered for numerous organizations.
APPLIED: UCR, UCSB, UCLA, UCB
ADMITTED: UCR, UCSB
PENDING: UCLA, UCB

@Moshe1010‌ I wonder how best to find out transfer stats. In Fall 2014, how many students got accepted and enrolled in NST and MCB majors? CCC’s Counseling Office Advisers gave me estimates that MCB got accepted (~100) compared to NST major (~25). Not sure what he based the estimates on or on its accuracy.

@lindyk8‌ Thank you so much for taking the time to chance me, especially since you rarely do it! I really appreciate it (: Fingers crossed for that acceptance

@Mbraca92‌

I can’t really chance you because I have no idea how the admission process works, but I do have similar stats. I applied to Cal as a philosophy major, and to UCLA & UCSB as a psychobiology major. In my essay/personal statement I expressed my intent to double major in philosophy and cognitive neuroscience/psychobiology, so again – We’re probably in a similar applicant pool.

Anyways, here’re my stats

UC GPA: 3.85
Major GPA (phil.): 4.0
Major GPA (cogn. neuroscience @ Cal): 4.0
Major GPA (psyc @ UCLA/UCSB): 4.0
IGETC: Completed
Pre-reqs: Incomplete for cogn. neuroscience @ Cal(UC Berkeley), but hopefully that doesn’t matter too much because I applied to Cal as a philosophy major and all my prereqs are complete.
EC: I’m also a member of PTK, but I didn’t bring it up at all in my apps. I also work 15-20 hours per week, but I did not write about work in my personal statement. I was fairly active at CSM, I held leadership positions in psyc club, the honors club, the writers’ club, and the intramural’s club.
Awards: The only award that I mentioned on the application was the award that we, The Writers’ Club, won for best college newsletter in the nation, awarded to us by the National Collegiate Honors Council.

APPLIED: UCSB (TAG), UCLA, UCB
ADMITTED: UCSB
PENDING: UCLA, UCB

In other words, I’m in the same boat as you dog.
