@gdkane I received an email saying that my application was still under consideration. Did you receive this as well?
Just out of curiosity what did you get @gdkane? Freshmen applicant essays for Leadership are still being read.
@draketears and @lindyk8 I received the same email which said that my application is still under consideration. I’m surprised my application continued on…Half of my descriptions for extracurricular activities were cut off because I didn’t realize that there was a character limit before I submitted.
@deepThinking25 I received an email in January from the Cal Alumni Association inviting me to apply. I’m not sure if it was invitation only…Ms. Sun might have posted something about it as well on her blog. It’s completely separate from the application process; different people review the scholarship application. So basically it isn’t an indication of whether you’ll be accepted or not; some people are just invited to apply based on certain qualifications, probably GPA and such. I think anyone could apply if they looked up the scholarship online. It doesn’t affect your admissions decision, however.
@gdkane if it really means that our app “continued on” or is moving on, i’d be really happy. As someone mentioned before, the alumni association is still reviewing apps. How i interpreted it was “we didnt update you on april 3rd, so we are letting you know that we are still reviewing apps”. Idk if i consider it as a moving forward process. But if it is, good for us!
@draketears Yeah, I thought it seemed like people whose apps were moving on got the email, and those whose apps weren’t moving on maybe didn’t get an email or got a different email? But you could totally be right; it could just be saying that they’re still reviewing and wanted to update us since they failed to do so on the 3rd. Here’s to hoping that our apps have moved on though!
I’m a volunteer reader of freshmen essays right now. I think it just means they’re still in process. But I do not know. I doubt you will hear much before notification day about selection.
Long Shot, but I am a Gamblin’ Man
Chance me if you will

I’ve taken most of philosophy classes my district has to offer.
Also, on my application I wrote about my extracurricular activities such as work and some charity stuff.
I got an invite to the Cal Alumni scholarship back in February, but I stupidly figured that I would not get accepted and disregarded it.But now I am regretting not filling it out just by the longest shot, that I do get in.
@gdkane I got the email in January asking me to apply also. I’m fairly sure it is sent to everybody. I didn’t apply for the scholarship though.
So, I realized that I miscalculated my units in progress by 1 unit on the supplemental application and I can’t stop stressing about it. I fixed it, but I don’t know what up do. How do you guys think that will affect my getting in?
Oh, yeah, those forms. Don’t worry about that. They go over everything anyway and readjust.
If I apply to the College of L&S, do I need yo learn a foreign language, because I am an international student, and I could speak Chinese.
@yaoxiaosui1995 from what I understand, you can take a test to get out of the language requirement.
There are some exceptions, though. Here’s a guide I found helpful:
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/graduation-requirements/language/berkeley/
@Outerhaven I don’t think it’s entirely impossible. I was talking to a philosophy major at Cal who mentioned knowing someone getting in with a 3.4. I’m sure excellent essays / ec’s are necessary for that, though. The acceptance rate for the Humanities in L&S is 47%, I believe, so the prereq completion may fall in your favor. I definitely wouldn’t expect an acceptance, though haha.
@goldencub Oh, Of course. For me UCB is the wild card.
Anyone applying for forestry and natural resources and receive an email from the faculty?
@Outerhaven WILDCARD
You don’t need to do any tests if you’re an international student or have an high school diploma from a foreign country. You’ll need to speak with the advisor who helped you during the process or contact admissions in UCB to waive this requirement (I did that).
Is there any chance we see decisions before the assigned date?
@StaticRoar no
