This year Columbia’s release was 6th, 2 days earlier than last year. Last year’s Chicago’s release was on 19th. Under assumption that universities release their result on certain weekday, 17th makes perfect sense.

I have McGill, UBC, and UT as safeties. They are top Canadian universities but it is very easy to get in as long as u get stable Bs from our schoolunless you are applying for specific competitive program.

wow…If I remembered correctly, last time I was on this thread (which was yesterday), it only had 6 pages…and now it has 23?! wow guys…wow…

@HateSMUS That sounds like a solid plan. My “backups” are (in descending order of preference) Northwestern (I know, very different from UChicago and my other backups, but has its strengths, relative to my needs) and then Grinnell (less selective, but still has great FA), Carleton, Bradley, Illinois College, and then Millikin.

@jamesbond It’s only going to get bigger, faster as we get closer and closer to the decision date.

I personally don’t feel the necessity of applying to many safety schools. If shooting for top 10 schools, I think having 2 safeties are enough and concentrate on dream schools+ reach schools, but it’s just my Asian thought. Northwestern seems little too selective to be safety. Rather, it would be a match for you. I’m probably back to my country by 17th so I won’t be too pressured. Now I should be ready to submit my RD apps.

Jamesbond, totally on the same page.
Ahah, you guys are having some pretty diverse conversations!!

But, yeah, the waiting is totally killing me. The thought of actually having to apply to more school upsets me…I really want to be done with applications already!

I partially want to wait to see if I get in because frankly I can’t afford all the application fees to other places.

On the plus side, if the decision date is indeed the 17th, we should find out tomorrow.

i find out my early to duke this wed, and i’m positive i wont get in anymore. uchicago is a big dream of mine, too, since those two schools were my top choices. i’ll be very sad if i don’t get into either ):

We will probably get the notification email this coming week, hopefully tomorrow!!!

How many days prior to the decision release do they usually send the notification email?

They notified a week before last year.

btw, it was amusing to read these previous pages. They multiplied faster than I expected.

Forgot I made an account ages ago, time to put it to good use XD

I’m pretty disappointed I missed the conversation about coffee. Darnit. :/

And ugh, people have been telling me it’s the 15th, and now we’re not even sure if it’s the 17th… Disappointing. :/

If they notified a week before, than ideally, we should all be getting some emails tomorrow.

Also, good luck with Duke, Michelle!!

here’s hoping that we get the email tomorrow! i really can’t wait any longer…(haven’t started any apps for schools below the caliber of chicago yet…)

oh gosh, i need to get going on applications :(

so, no correlation between the finaid emails?

^^Apparently not. I sort of doubted the reasoning behind the correlation anyways. Would the office really go through all that time to cross reference lists between who’s accepted and who hasn’t turned in FA info, which is sorted out in two separate buildings, THEN personally contact those people? And all in one or two days, much less?

I just want to wish everyone good luck when decisions come out next week! I’m certainly crossing my fingers (who isn’t?). Also we should make another thread for results only, so it’s easier for future applicants to find things that will actually AID their application process. I got really frustrated at the middle of this thread, where there arised a stupid debate on one’s stance on AA. That has nothing to do with UChicago EA discussion, and you should of taken your discussion elsewhere. You know who you are, and you only made it harder for future applicants to navigate this thread. So please, let’s have some pleasant discussion about this wonderful university to which we’re applying! Please?

If I’m lucky enough to get accepted and get a good FA package, I’ll look forward to meeting what seems like a lot of good applicants, because this is my absolute top choice!

I did some digging and found a thread from UChicago EA in '09 where they were talking about FA missing info emails. One of the posters straight up called the FA department and asked if there was a correlation. There wasn’t. So we can definitively say that there is indeed no correlation between getting the FA email and being accepted. Which sucks, because I got the email last night. Plenty of people in that thread got the email and weren’t accepted, and some did not get the email (even though they were missing documents) and were accepted. I guess we’ll have to wait another week before final decisions.

Hmm… Darn. :/

Why can’t they just tell us nooooooow :(
