OFFICIAL UChicago EA Class of 2017 Results Thread!

I’m convinced release will be on 17th, so I’m not waiting for decision emails anyway.

@mhaque ugh, I know!! I was really hoping that they’d release it on the 15th. Oh well, one can only dream. lawlz

Some hippies at my school spread a rumor that I was admitted. People kept asking me all last week if it was true I’d got in.

^HAHAHAHAHAHAHA that’s hilarious. xD Would **** me off so much if it happened to me though.

Everyone at my school knows I applied, so if I’m rejected I’ll just have to repeat it over and over again…

With the whole ACT debacle, I think what colleges really don’t factor in is that some people genuinely aren’t good test takers. The girl that’s ranked 1st in my class could not for the life of her get above a 29. I know another girl that’s enrolled in an advanced program so that she’ll graduate with half of her college credits done, yet she only managed to pull of a 17. So it depends on the person. Overall, do I think it’s a measure of how well you understand something? Not necessarily.

My whole school knows I applied and they’ve all been so supportive. It’s amazing.

Also, I got in New College of Florida today! It was my top choice in terms of affordability and academics (and I’ll likely go if UChi and UPenn reject me), so the acceptance was good news :D

My whole school knows I’ve applied and they’ve all been like “What is a UChicago? Why don’t you go to Harvard?” Literally 90% of last year’s graduating class is either at the local community college or not in college at all, and nobody has left the state to go to college in decades. When I try to talk to my friends about how I’m nervous about not getting in, they’re all like “shutup. You got a 35, quit your whining.” Not so supportive here.

wow my high school is so diff from those i’ve heard so far O.o i go to a public school. my grade has 1040 people, so no one rly knows where everyone is applying. obviously within certain groups u hear rumors and such, but never has the ENTIRE school known about one person’s college endeavor. thats so crazy to me lol

@CJohnH i understand u. only a couple of my friends like to talk about college stress. except all my friends are applying to rly high colleges, but most of them don’t like to talk about it. its just preference

That’s why ACT/SAT do not measure any intelligence as I previously commented. It only measures high level of English proficiency in reading and writing. I was always in top 5% in my high school but couldn’t break 1900 until I studied for SAT, memorizing tons of vocab, studying grammar etc. I saw many other top students who struggled to break 1800 and I realized their English ability, although they were English natives opposed to me, they were just not good enough for level of critical thinking and vocabulary top universities require. Even when I studied for CR strategy, I learned how to read objectively and critically which I appreciated that I acquired such skills. Academic talents and critical thinking + English skills are totally separated. I know a brilliant Canadian friend who took 12 APs till Junior year and got 5 for all of them without really studying them. But he only got 1930 in his SAT.

Wow, i understand the ‘whole-college-knows-I’m-applying’ feeling! I’m from India and i applied EA. Since not many students go overseas for undergrad, many people know that I’m applying! It is kind of intimidating because, my scores are good, but not Brilliant for an Asian. But I’m hoping my passion and enthusiasm will stand out.
Anyway good luck to all EA applicants!

@CJohnH haha I know. Lot of students who are not knowledgable in universities often told me, ‘you got rejected from Columbia even with your high GPA,APs, ECs, and mid 2200s SAT?, ha your essay or personality shown/teacher rec probably sucked, looking at your rejection’ They have no idea how competitive some universities are and just assume one would get in only with decent grades.

Good luck to you too jayashree95!

At my school, there are too many people for everyone to know where we’re all applying, but when one of my best friends got into Columbia Univeristy ED, the news spread like wildfire. It’s usually after people get into an ivy that everyone finds out haha. Cross your fingers for UChicago~

and my school has nearly a 2200 average…the ****…

I’m worried about how I would consistently attend my high school for half more year if accepted at UChicago… just a happy imagination

Nice to know i’m not the only one stressing about decisions. isn’t uchicago the best or what? ugh i was counting down to the 15th before i found out it wasn’t the date… :(

Hey thank you everyone who responded to my question. Really thx! I know most schools waive toefl if sat reaches a certain score (my reading should be high enough to meet any reasonable score limit). It’s just from what I heard that UChicago kind of doesn’t allow that (but you guys’ comments reassured me  guess i just didn’t get the accurate info). Anyway I shall just wait patiently since the result is coming out soon… Ahhhh afraid

I’ve told only one friend that I applied to UChicago and am waiting decisions, but he probably told all his friends, so everyone probably knows. lawlz

who else did a ed/ea along with the uchicago ea?

I did! And got both :)

I did! Got rejected from columbia
