I’m sorry I started this debate…I was merely asking how to rescind it (which I did). And to whomever made that offhand comment about my ED school, CMC, being a “lesser institution”… I chose CMC ED for a reason. I’m in love with that school. It is a perfect fit for me. And, in addition to that, fantastic academically. Frankly, I thought I had a better shot getting into UChi.

Glad to hear you got it done, Nick. Good luck at CMC, it is great to be admitted to a school you love!

tawarren95, are you sure you have done the research? Here is what I wrote on another thread.

My GPA is slightly above 3.8 right now and I have to say it is not as difficult as some say it is. There is a lot of fair grading involved (at least in the vast majority of classes I have taken). If you put in the work, you will walk away with an A. Just so you know, I am by no means a genius. I actually scored below the 10th percentile on the critical reading section (of all applicants accepted by UChicago). I was not a valedictorian either (top 3% I believe). If I can do well here, so can you.

UChicago does not care about the choice of major. I put down agricultural science (something UChicago does not offer) and got accepted. That was four years ago. It is possible, but highly unlikely, that they have changed their evaluation process.

I’ve only read through some threads, so I wouldn’t call what I’ve done as research and still have no conclusive or clear answers about premed at UChicago. Your post is really informative, thank you!
To kind of respond to this in chronological order:
- “The undergraduate college has a bad relationship with UChicago’s own medical school (Pritzker)” is false - I haven’t read anywhere that they have a bad relationship. However, I have read that very few UChicago alums attend Pritzker, which is strange to me. I’ve also read that UChicago students, among others, don’t really like Pritzker because they don’t have a trauma center.
- I haven’t heard anything about UChicago’s advising office submitting letters later than most others. I have heard, however, that the CCIHP tends to take a negative approach in advising, i.e encouraging many premed-ers not to apply to med school and doing a lot of the weeding out that (in my opinion) coursework should do.
- I find it weird that UChicago does not release as much data and stats as other schools about premed and med school and I wonder why this is so. What about prospective students who don’t want to walk into the office just to find out about class statistics that should be easily accessible?
- I totally believe that anyone willing to work can be successful. Your encouragement is awesome and reinforces this.
Thank you for the information! Seriously helpful to all prospect premed-ers!

These are the rumors I have heard from my fellow classmates. Knowing the facts, I love debunking these rumors. Most UChicago undergrads love their alma mater, but they’d rather go somewhere else for medical school for a change. They know they can always come back for residency. Trauma center is not the issue here. The main concern that we have about Pritzker (and the medical center) in general, is their lack of community engagement (or so it seems).

What makes UChicago more difficult for pre-meds than its peer institutions is its lack of grade inflation in the humanities. I took American Civilization two years ago, and one of my professors said the average on our essays was a B-. I had to work exceedingly hard to hone my writing skills, perfect my essays, seek help during office hours, and get that precious A at the end. The same class would probably have an average or median of high B+ to low A- at most peer institutions. (Dartmouth, I am looking at you.)

[Median Grades for Undergraduate Courses at Dartmouth](<a href=“This page has moved”>This page has moved)

However, there is something that makes UChicago easier for pre-meds than its peers. All classes are weighed the same. This means that an organic chemistry course (lab included) is weighed exactly the same as a drama course. This is ridiculous, and it makes absolutely no sense. But this policy is great for pre-meds. You can easily fluff up your GPA here.

Had a dream of getting admission from Chicago yesterday. That dream was so real that it totally fooled me till I woke up. I was so disappointed when I woke up. Hope it comes true. 1.5 day left! GL to everyone

@HateSMUS that’s happened to me too many times to count. Such a disappointment to wake up ton

Before my Columbia ED result, I had a dream of checking the admission result and getting rejection. I was very relieved when I woke up, but I got rejected eventually within a week. Perhaps, I’m more optimistic toward UChicago result because my essays were much better and unique compared to short-answer essays of Columbia. I’m gonna cry either cases, either admitted or rejected. Only deferral would prevent any emotion.

Oh I’m going to cry so hard. I’ve warned everyone about it. I’m terrified that they’re going to come out while I’m still at school and I’m going to check and just burst into tears.

did anyone else get a big envelope from UChicago today with a weirdly large booklet inside?

nebraskagal, how about not checking until you get home? That is my D’s plan… she does not want to react either way in front of people at school (is keeping her applications and acceptances pretty close to the vest, which is her way).

^^ hilarious

for real??

@collegeboundboy2 What happened?

■■■■■ - don’t get excited

collegeboundboy2 is a ■■■■■. Take a look at his post in the Duke ED decisions thread.

■■■■■ status: successful. I jumped in my seat a little when I read that.

Thank God I checked my email BEFORE checking this thread.
