Official UCI Fall 2016 Transfer Waitlist Thread

@BIMguy thank you!! yeah, UCI is the best option for me right now. Glad that I am now officially an Anteater :slight_smile:

Is anybody with a low GPA that has an impacted major contemplating about majoring in a non impacted next year(if rejected)? Iā€™m seriously thinking about it. Iā€™m a CS major with 3.33 GPA. Iā€™m not rejected yet though. Maybe Iā€™m just feeling discouraged right now and I might change my mind, but Iā€™m wondering if I should apply for CS if my GPA doesnā€™t improve.

@lugi350 hereā€™s my bit of advice for future transfers that choose popular majors like engineering and computer science. Pick the competitive major as your first choice, then pick a non ā€œimpactedā€ alternate that you can live with that will still get you to where you want to be in the end.

I was an electrical engineering major, with my alternate as aerospace engineering. When I was placed in the waitlist I immediately called UCI and told them Iā€™d like to be considered for physics, and they changed my alternate major in the system. Ultimately thatā€™s how I got in, and in reality itā€™s the better choice for me in the long run.

If I would have known that back in November, I would have applied to all of UCā€™s this way, and Iā€™d probably be looking at more choices than just two schools right now.

Either way, you shouldnā€™t get discouraged no matter the outcome. Just remember to keep moving forward.

Got in off the waitlist on May 26!
History Major
3.09 GPA
I was honestly really surprised to find out before June 1, but either way I am excited!

Do you guys know what the next step is? I got off the waitlist, submitted my SIR, Housing App AND SLR already. I havenā€™t gotten any more information on what iā€™m supposed to do after that though.

I just got in for electrical engineering!!
Iā€™m so torn right now! I have no idea what to do. I have to choose between UCI and Cal Poly SLO for EE.

Here are my stats again:

Accepted sometime 5/27 between 5 and 9PM!

Major: Electrical Engineering
UC-Transferable GPA: 3.2-ish
IGETC: complete
Prereqā€™s: Everything
ECā€™s: Really good. President of STEM Club, two NASA internships, honors society, and a bunch of other stuff.
PS: Pretty good, had a lot of insight and editing from people. Would rate 8/10
Accepted: SDSU, CSUN, CSULB, Cal Poly SLO, UCSB, UCI
Waitlisted: UCD, UCSD (donā€™t really care about these anymore)
Rejected: UCLA, UCSC

@uisforutah thanks for the advice, I kind of thought my alternate major being software engineering would have a higher acceptance rate, but even though there was 900 plus applicants for CS and only 90ish for SE the acceptance rate was still pretty low. Iā€™ll probably follow your advice and use my alternate major to a non impacted one next year. I definitely learned a lot of things in this yearā€™s transfer process. This forum is really helpful.

@Stairs lol how did you get rejected by UCSC?

@lugi350 Iā€™m at 3.25 myself in CS and I havenā€™t considered it. For me, CS takes priority over my dream schools uci/ucla. If my heart was absolutely set on UCI, Iā€™d change my major (maybe).

@Arvelamuri I would check out the transfer acceptance form. Iā€™m sure someone had the same question.

Accepted
Transfer GPA:3.25
Major: electrical Engineering
Applied: Sac State, SJSU, Pamona, UCI, UCD
Admitted: Sac State, SJSU, UCI
Waitlisted: CPP
Denied: UCD
Prereqs: Finished them all. They also highly recommended finishing the physics series so I did.
EC: Community Service, sports, and work.
PS: IDK maybe a 7/10 I heard they donā€™t read them.

@Ecain17 Honestly I have no idea. Maybe they just didnā€™t like my essay or something but I feel like it might of been a mistake. They said that I didnā€™t meet some of the requirements when I know I had every single prereq done for UCSC.
Whatever, donā€™t want to go anyways. :stuck_out_tongue:

@KennyAndTheJets for CS itā€™s not that unheard of to get hired without a degree or with a non CS degree because there are so many programming languages out there for different kinds of programs, at least this is what Iā€™m telling myself for maybe changing majors. Iā€™m currently learning swift in my own time and want to accelerate my learning of Swift this summer, so maybe I can have an app in the App Store, so I can mention it in my essay.

Hi guys, just a little update. I got into USC so that is where I will be going as its my first choice (financial aid pending :-?) but I still havenā€™t heard back from UCI so that kind of sucks but good luck to everyone else!

@BIMguy congrats!

@BIMguy Hey, congratulations man.

@Ecain17 thank you :slight_smile:

@uctransfer16 thank you! :slight_smile:

for those that got accepted off the waitlist, did you send in an appeal? mine is still pending :frowning:
