I’m curious to know what sort of medical conditions you guys are able to acquire from your doctors that can possibly help the appealing process?

Dear *******:

We have reviewed your appeal, and we are pleased to offer you admission to UCLA for the Fall Quarter 2009. You have been admitted to the UCLA College of Letters and Science with Pre ***** as your academic major.

You bring an impressive array of strengths to your academic endeavors. We know that UCLA will benefit from your intelligence, imagination, and energy, and we hope you will choose UCLA for your undergraduate education.

UCLA truly is a world-class university. Here you will have access to acclaimed academic departments, a world-renowned faculty, and distinctive research programs. The campus also offers a full range of social and cultural activities and organizations for you to explore. At UCLA, you will be challenged to confront, understand, and master a remarkable range of disciplines that are the measures of a cutting-edge education. Our students consistently remark how UCLA both fulfills their intellectual interests and enhances their personal growth; we invite you to become a part of this extraordinary experience.

This is what it should say for those who are curious!! ^ To be honest, I got kind of freaked out when I saw this big blob on the admission site. I thought it was a rejection but then I read the first line. lol. of course this isn’t the whole letter. I have to take out my name and major though, because either one would give away my identify I think… since there are only so many appeals that actually go through LOL

stargalaaxy, can you stat your grounds of your appeal?

oh! and congratulations!

Oh and also (because I’m getting so many messages about this) I’ll just answer it here:
Basis for appeal
- missing a prereq. on application <— actually did have it done just forgot to write it on the original app. FINISHING ALL PREREQS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR UCLA, IF YOU MISS ONE, SINCE IT’S SO COMPETITIVE, IF YOU MISS ONE PREREQ. YOU’RE DONE. lol
- a family situation which put me under a lot of stress. I didn’t include any evidence verifying it though, but they most probably believed me, but it was true.
- my letters of rec. were pretty good. One was off the wall, the other was just mediocre, but the one that wrote a great one for me wrote that he knew me very well so he came off as a VERY creditable source.
- I know this sounds silly, but I think the presentation of the appeal letter is VERY important. It needs to sound straight to point, urgent, and professional.
- I had a good GPA, great extracurriculars, pretty darn good essay (so I was already a pretty qualified candidate).
Anyway, I hope that helped you guys! I’m permanently off college confidential now lol

P.S. all the above reasons and the fact that I GOT DAMN LUCKY. LUCK WAS DEFINITELY ON MY SIDE FOR THIS ONE.
GL!!

^ congrats!!! :D

go bruins!

anyone else hear yet…?

I think that pre-req error did more help than his family situation.

^^ was probably a relief for them to get an appeal that wasn’t just another sob-story… pretty disgusting how many people try to embellish family issues or ‘disabilities’ for their advantage.

Turned mine on Friday in person. Here’s hoping for the best…

whoswithwhatnow… please don’t judge people by their appeals. some people’s such problems have a lot of effect on their education. its not the same old perfect college experience for everyone.

stargalaxy…congrats…that’s fantastic news…i always like to hear about situations like yours… btw as far as being done w/ college confidential…it’s all about social capital, i’m sure you benefited from this site & i hope u consider coming back on here from time 2 time next year, maybe u can be an inspiration for someone else later who is going through a similar situation …good luck at UCLA

whoswithwhatnow, you might also want to comment on what you say. Karma is a ***** and maybe you’re not going through crap right now but when extremely bad things happen to you beyond your own imagination like some people i know… it can really ruin your life.

Aren’t we supposed to hear back this week? Any day in particular?

luvtolearn: thanks! and you do make a fair point… I would love to help out anyone that has any more questions! I’ll probably still linger on this site until UCLA starts in the fall haha since I’m not too busy with school work and such, but I can’t guarantee that once fall quarter rolls around, I’ll probably be too swamped with all my bio stuff But definitely… if you guys have any questions (I’m no expert, but I’ll try to answer them) Ask away!
And guys: I know SIR deadline is rolling around, but don’t lose faith!! My appeal reasons were nothing phenomenal as you can see haha.

can you send me your appeal letter stargalaxy? I’ve already sent mine in, but I’d sure like to read yours since your decision was reversed!

stargalaxy, may I also take look at your appeal, please? =).

just got off the phone with an admissions counselor. she said my decision was made today for the appeal and i should be able to see it by tonight.

im dying here…

Are they going to release all the appeal results at the same time?

Hopefully I will know my result before this Friday so that I can make my final decision :)

peppamint, how long ago did you send in your appeal?
