Official UCSC Transfer 2012 Decisions

Accepted
Major: Mathematics
GPA- 2.9 overall
Tag: No
IGETC: No
Pre-reqs: All

@randroid- Congratz!

@anexia- Me too! This wait is the worst. If I don’t hear within the next week or so, I don’t know WHAT I’m going to do. Are you planning on attending UCSC at all?

=( im scared. but i only have a 3.29 for compsci and im still waiting for baskin to send the approved letter Xd.

Hey there. I’m a College Confidential noob. I too am anxiously awaiting my UCSC transfer decision and just found and read through the thread. Glad to hear it’s not just me.

I’m a Sociology major, 3.7 GPA, though I’m missing a necessary math class which in my case is statistics. I’ve had some lousy stats teachers. I did take “Mathematics for General Ed.” just to graduate from my JC, which is not transferable.

I actually finished last semester so I’ve had this one off. I thought about going back for one more semester, maybe getting stats out of the way, but figured nah, I’ll just find a job and work in the meantime. You can probably guess how that’s went. Hah! It’s been a total drag.

I’ve been accepted to San Jose State, but would much rather escape the pretentiousness and materialism that is the Four-Oh-Hate. I’ve also applied to Berkeley, which is probably a long shot. So I’m really hoping it’ll be UCSC.

@plasmadis: Welcome to the board! Your GPA looks great, I’m sure you’ll be hearing from them real soon!

Any guesses on when the next batch will come out for SC?

@Plasmadis; you’ve got a good shot at most of the UCs, however not having the mnimum math requirement may just be your utter downfall :/

Am I on the right page, I keep checking where it says “View Application Status” but all it says is,

UC Santa Cruz has received your application for fall 2012! As we thoroughly review the thousands of applications we have received, here is some important information for you to know.

It is important that you update any changes to your planned academic schedule at the UC Application Update web site at [University of California - Update transfer application](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/appupdate) which opens in mid January. At that site you are also required to provide the University with your most recent fall term grades. UC Santa Cruz wants you to provide this information no later than February 15, 2012. Schedule changes and updated grades must always be reported in a timely fashion.

^ at least you have a message. For me it used to be the same message but for some reason it said “Fall 2010” instead of “Fall 2012.”

Now, in my “View Application Status” it only shows my full name. Anyone in the same boat?

Btw I don’t understand trolls such as Ylf815. What a waste of time.

@Andre760 - I’ve got the same thing. I keep checking hoping that a decision has been made. But still nothing. I’ve actually not received am acceptance or rejection from any of the UC’s that i’ve applied to so far…

@coqueiro- I am in the same boat, its driving me crazy!

@Beachbum2009 - yeah, totally understand. I’m just going to wait until April 1st to check again. I can’t deal with looking everyday and hearing nothing

Well, no change yet again. This is ridiculous! Haven’t they already released half of their decisions? How long could it seriously take them…I do wonder how many applications they are evaluation each day though… 100+?

Maybe waiting until April 1st isn’t such a bad idea. Though, with my luck, it probably wouldn’t be out anyways!

i had the problem too where my application status only showed my name for a while and nothing else. i emailed their IT department and they said they couldn’t do anything about it and that hopefully it would get fixed in a few business days. it got fixed later that night for me. i thought it meant something, like my status had changed… but nope.

^Same. That happened to me three days or so ago. I was freaking out thinking I had a status change (UC Admin had emailed me about an inquiry and I freaked out thinking it was about my app status). Surely enough, it was a false alarm…

Ugh I’m done waiting for this ****!

I know they’re rejecting me because they emailed me in January to ask me something about my application, I just don’t know why they’re ****ting me like this by taking too long.

Yes, I understand I’m not one of their most qualified applicants. But come on, I already got into SDSU, all I need is a flat out rejection so I can pay my 400 dollar SDSU SIR fee and 800 dollar housing deposit! Or maybe SIR into UCR instead!

Btw, my stats:

Major: Anthropology, BA
GPA: 3.567 (17-Jan-12)
Tag: No
IGETC: Yes
Major pre-requisites: Will be completed by Spring

If anything, it might be because I’m transferring 107 units. Or because of my low GPA compared to other Anthro majors. Or maybe because I went to 5 different colleges.

I’m so tired of waiting for UCSC. And UCLA too, but I know I won’t get in there for sure. Haha

^Why do you think you would be rejected from UCSC with those stats? Your number of units won’t matter if they’re taken at CC’s, they just wont count past 90 towards your degree. Your GPA is above the average admitted GPA AND you’ll have your pre-reqs finished, that gives you a damn good shot. Also, the number of CC’s don’t even matter so long as you get your coursework done. Many people can’t even get all the courses they need at one CC, so they HAVE too look towards others. I wouldn’t worry about them emailing you about your application either~ that’s really no indicator of whether or not they’re going to accept/reject you, they just needed clarification on something that was on your app.

I know its hard not to be frustrated and anxious, I am too! But I wouldn’t count UCSC out as an option just because they’re taking a long time to get back to you. I haven’t been notified yet either but they’re a month out from their deadline. I mean, they’ve only been releasing decisions for a week now…not a long time, if you think about it. I think the best thing to do is stop checking every day because otherwise, like I said before, that flipping decision will just end up consuming you. Try to stay busy so as not to think about it!

BTW- Don’t resort to SIR’ing to UCR over UCSC just because they’re taking a while to respond. Just hold out and see whether or not you get accepted (I’m sure you will) so you can pick carefully and honestly. Just my own personal opinion- UCR’s location blows and I would do absolutely anything to avoid going there, JUST because of where it is.

@Orgasmicdanger: I think you should be good for SC real soon. I got in and my stats are similar to yours. I went to another cc years ago too and f*'ed that up so I do have that on my grade history. The 107 unit thing might be hurting though. That’s a guap!

edit nvm, Kingdomsroa is right. They only count up to 90. However, I read somewhere that Cal will not take you if you have over 80 units or something like that.

@IcedEspresso- I understand your judgement as I did not have much time to post info. I have, however, seen many stress out on this board due to a lower g.p.a. or past mistakes and I thought showing my stats would give some a little bit of hope. The lower g.p.a. is due to life factors and a little immaturity during my first two semesters at college when I was 18. I will give a better idea of what I have done to get in.

UC Transferable g.p.a.-3.4
EC’s- Work, volunteering in the college’s chemistry lab, clubs, PTA board, Nutrition seminar speaker, hospital volunteer. I also worked as an accountant for several years which showed my interest in my major.
Life Circumstances- Military spouse, 2 children

Like I said, I was just trying to give hope to some with a lower overall g.p.a.

@plasmadis: Honestly, I think you’ll be fine. I got into UCSC about a week ago, as a sociology major, and my GPA is only a 3.2. I have taken statistics, and I’m not sure how much that’ll affect you, but I think you’re more than likely in.

I’m still waiting on my packet to arrive in the mail. I always run home to check, because I’m afraid my dog will beat me to it and tear it apart like he does our mail lmao. -_-

Is anyone else confused about the whole holistic process and how UCLA and UCB are involved? Some people were saying that if you get rejected from UCSC then you probably won’t even be considered at UCLA and UCB. I don’t know. :|

@ Stressy: The holistic review process is just as the name implies. They don’t only look at your gpa but at everything else. Irvine is also doing this now.

So maybe someone with stellar grades but has lived in a bubble their whole life would not be a good candidate and vice versa.
