I got accepted! Reading people’s stats & stories helped a lot, so I thought I should share my experience in case it helps anyone else. Thanks btw to astrophysicistmom(sp) for answering a question I had a couple months ago. I couldn’t say thanks earlier because I forgot the account name & pw which I created the thread with, but I saw your answer and it was very helpful.

In State Community College

3.15 GPA(with 4 W’s!!)
40-something credits.
Computer Science major
Essay that tells my story(family tragedy occurred at the beginning of my college experience) and explains some of the W’s(although the W’s were spaced out). I also showed major improvements in my grades after that first year.

But what got me in, I’m guessing, was the fact that I was a member of the MTAP program. I really recommend joining that program. It’s extremely easy to sign up. I was nervous about whether or not I did it right but apparently I did! Just to warn anyone in the future who will be reading this, I’m pretty sure you have to send your transfer application at a earlier deadline than normal, even earlier than priority, if you’re an MTAP member.

Hi all, I also was just accepted as a transfer student (from an in-state community college).

I am just wondering if anybody knows when the LEP decisions will be made? My admission letter says my major is Letter and Sciences, and makes no mention of my chosen major or even my second choice, non-LEP major.

I am really happy for you all. Tarawa, I do not know when UMD made the LEP (Limited Enrollment Program) decisions. They probably have made it when reviewing your application and you getting accepted to UMD. If you place in Letters and Sciences, it means that you have to finish some requirements for the major that you want to be in and then you can apply again as an internal student. You can only apply once. What is your major?

I applied to UMD for fall 2012 semester and yesterday I received an email saying they have postponed a decision on my application until they receive my current semester grades.

Last semester I received a 3.568 GPA and made deans list.
High school: 3.21 GPA weighted
1320 SAT
Essay: Reasons why I decided to attend my current college was to further my education and to have the opportunity to once again apply to UMD, the importance of education to Latinos and how I was rejected last year.

Do you guys think I have a chance of getting in? UMD has always been my top choice and I really want to go there.

UMd really pays attention to SAT score. Also we heard that UMd would very likely to deny applicants with less than 3.5 GPA, although your college GPA is improved and right at that level. However you should have a big chance of getting in due to your ethnicity background. Good luck.

I did not have the required college math course at the time of application (I was not aware I was going to apply to UMD until late Feb. and my school does not require one), but I figured that because it was just a math course and I could take it later, I applied without one.

Later I realized that it might be a problem and signed up for a summer class at my community college and emailed admissions about this, but they never got back to me before I received my decision.

High School stats:
3.6+ GPA (hated school, did no work)
Honors and AP classes every year
28 ACT, taken once
President of Habitat for Humanity chapter
Editor for Literary Magazine
4 Years of Theater and over 300 hrs toward summer productions
Volunteer Work

1 Semester College:
OOS school
15 credits (16 in progress)
3.6+ GPA, still getting in the habit of completing work
Writer for campus magazine
Photographer for campus newspaper

Do you think the reason I did not get in was because of the math class? I applied to UMD because I cannot afford to attend my current school next year. Now that I did not get in, I will attend my community college for a semester and reapply. What else can I do to boost my chances? I have no other options.

Tobbiesfb, I am sorry to hear to you did not get accepted to UMD. The reason you did not get accepted was because you do not have math course yet. UMD expects applicants to take a math course that satisfies the fundamental math requirement. They are really serious on the fundamental math requirement, the fundamental English requirement, and everything. They are a real stickler for the math requirement and the English requirement. Also you mentioned in your post you have 16 credits. UMD wants 30 transferable credits or more when applying next time. Since you did not have 30 credits, they used your high school transcript and SAT/ACT scores. Yes, I believe you can try the community college.
To boost your chances, take the general education classes and classes for your major. I suggest that you contact the pre-transfer advising office at the University of Maryland. They will be able to assist you and advise you on what courses for you take at the community college. They will also let you know what courses will be transferable to UMD and the courses that will not be transferable to UMD. Keep doing what you are doing with your extracurricular activities. Continue being active and involved in them. Also, do well in school and get your GPA to 3.0 or higher.

Also, if your major is one of the academic majors for the Limited Enrollment Program (LEP) at UMD, you must also take the require courses for the major that you are applying for. Thank you for your post.

If I get a GPA of at least a 3.5, or the same GPA I received last semester (3.568), will it increase my chances of getting into UMD. My application decision is postponed until UMD receives my current semester grades.

I applied to UMD as an international transfer student from a community college.
My current GPA is 3.4

I have finished:
Micro and Macro economics
Financial Accounting I & II
Business Law
Calculus
English Writing I & II
Public Speaking
Sociology & US History

Is there any chance for me to get accepted?
I also confused how to read the application status, because it is only said ‘complete’
I hope that I can get accepted!

Please view the response there. You posted your response twice on the UMD forum. So, please look at the last posting thread you made. The answer is there. Thank you for posting.

Hello Sh1993, I do not know where exactly you can view your admission decision. Did they send you a notification by email that a decision has been made or to view your admission decision or even how to view it?

I am sorry that I am not able to assist you further. I really wish that I could help you further. My suggestion to you is that you contact the undergraduate admission office and they will tell where you can view your decision in the portal. Thank you for your post.

I am currently a student at University of MD, Baltimore County (UMBC) and I have been accepted for transfer from the Fall 2012 semester at American University for International Studies and at University of MD for Government and Politics. I am having a very hard time deciding where to go because neither have given me a financial aid package yet. Which, financial conditions aside, would be a better option at this point? Which degree will bring me what kind of jobs?

For the people who are being accepted, I see that hey are accepted to certain schools like for example, Shababa you were accepted to Goverment and Politics. Did you guys get accepted to the University first, then chose the inner schools? Or did they accept you right away based off your selected major?

I ask this because I am not sure if I can get into the school of engineering right away and I wonder if my possibility of getting into UMD will increase if i chose a different major? Thanks!

Your stats is similar to mine. I’m also an international student with a 3.68 applying to accounting major, and I also did tutor but not for long. I think you should appeal it and talk to Smiths advisor about your application. Btw, when did you submit your application? I haven’t heard back yet
