^ you have good stats and ecs. you have a good chance. however, that isn’t even close to a hook.

which one?

i just called and the counselor said mid-late april. i think we can assume that means next friday. and to ukraine - neither of them are hooks. a hook is something that gets your application viewed in a whole different light. those two things might be positive aspects that could help you out but they’re not hooks. a hook is urm status, developmental admit, recruited athlete, celebrity, or in some situations, an amazing life story. but don’t fret, you have a very solid application.

Called admissions today as well. Decisions come out between the 16th and 20th

I just called and was told we would have them at the end of the month. She said they didn’t finish reviewing all the applications in time enough for us to have them by mid-April.

This is truly unbelievable.

Seriously, can you blame them though? I know it says on their site that decisions would be released by mid-April, but also isn’t this the first year where they have had a significant jump in applications due to the Common App?

Either way, just be patient! :)

Dont decisions normally come out fridays? So doesn’t that mean that we will find out the 20th?

1…seriously calm down everyone

They’ll come when they come. Live your life and when you get that Accepted notification celebrate! or if Denied, cry :(

Why do you have to cry? There are other great schools around. I am sure that many of us applied at other great schools we have already been accepted too. We’ll move on with our lives accordingly, but why cry? It’s not the end of the world. Life goes on.

he gon’ cry. One week, whoop whoop. hopefully.

probably start on 20th, looking forward to it but really worried T T

I know, I really hope it is just one more week seafood92, but it does sound as if it will be on the 20th Penny2012. I’ll be honest with you, I really can’t wait for this to be over, and for us to know. Hopefully, they will let us know before the 20th. Maybe we’ll start getting letters in the mail next week before notifications come online. I have read of that happening in prior years. Either way, we are down to the end of this. I hope we all get in!

I know this is kinda late guys but i wanna post my stats and see where I lie in this whole thing.

Transfer from:CPCC(best community college in the United States and probably the world)
College G.P.A.: like a 3.564(rounded)
High School G.P.A.: 4.3 (unweighted)
S.A.T.: 680 math(insert boss status here) 530 reading…fail
Extra curriculars: Volunteer a lot and play some bball at the rec center.
ACT: N/A (never took that shizznizz)
Hooks: Co-Founder of IGW(@Indiangrlwasted) handle on twitter, now approaching over 400 followers in less than a year. Shows great marketing skills and determination. Also Youtube sensation Jenna Marbles follows us too.

Tell me what you guys think, I think i got about a 60/40% chance right now?

yeah, that sounds good!Athough I’m not in good standing at all to fantasize about an AD from UNC. Anyway, you guys have better stats and more persuasive records than mine, so I would send my heartfelt congratulations to any of you getting accepted. You deserve UNC^ ^

first of all that’s not a hook. second of all you put that on your application? that’s risky as hell.

indiangrlwasted - I believe your chances are more likely to be in the trenches. However, I have now begun to follow you on twitter. Your stats are pretty good though. Damn man did you really have to put IGR on your app? No offense but that’s not really marketing anything and I believe that’s going to hurt you. Are you a junior or sophomore?

@timmyjohnson42 - You have an okay chance if you’re applying as a sophomore. You have a better shot if you’re applying as a junior.

No offence, but I really hope you didn’t put the Twitter thing on your application. I mean, if you did, I hope they don’t use it against you, cause it definitely isn’t going to help you. I can create a Twitter account today, and have 20,000 followers by the end of the day, no joke. I’m sure you could have thought of something better to put on your app. Anyways, best of luck.

Uhh I was only joking about the crying thing… Just trying to lighten up the mood.

I dabble in these forums from time to time and just wanted to inspire some hope in all of you prospective transfer students.

I transferred from a top 40 private university in Fall 2009. What I can tell you is that transfer applicants come in all shapes and sizes. What do I mean by that? Well, there are transfers from top 20 universities all the way to community colleges. What I can say is that junior-applicants are admitted with lower GPAS than sophomores. I had about a 3.9 GPA, but there were others who had as low as a 3.2 GPA. Some of the schools that people transferred from during my year were Emory, Georgetown, Wake Forest, Elon, Villanova, UF, UGA, Tulane, Loyola Baltimore and so on.

For those of you who are Kenan-Flagler hopefuls, I hate to be a pessimist… but it is nearly impossible. Adjusting to the Carolina way is not an easy task, especially for those you who are transferring from top 50- tier 2 universities. It will take you a good semester to semester and a half to understand Carolina’s academic philosophy and how to excel as a student there. Do not be surprised if you get your first C during your first semester, it’s a large learning curve for all of us transfers. Having thoughts of transferring back to your respected universities is normal? I know I thought about it and I was not the only one, with my friends from schools like Villanova and UM who had similar reactions. So if Business is something that you definitely want and you’re not open to choosing alternate majors in CAS that offer similar job opportunities (Mathematics/ Economics) then you should strongly consider transferring to UNC.

Carolina is a great university, there is no doubt about that. It has some of the best athletics in the country, some of the best programs (Journalism, Public Health, Business, Dramatic Arts), and Chapel Hill is your quintessential college town. I had a great two years in the THRILL but the transfer experience is a bit different than the freshman experience. There are a few more obstacles to climb, socially and academic, and transfers usually graduate with lower GPAs than their counterparts.

Hope this helps! If any of you have individual questions for me, feel free to send me a message.

Best of luck!

Rah-Rah, Carolina!
