^If I click accept admission do I have to pay the deposit right there and then?

@pencilinablender - How did you come up with $44,000 for OOS? The website says around $41,000, and that even looks like a high estimate. Just curious, as I’m out of state.

@Matisyahu - Yes, I believe you do. Right after I clicked “accept” it took me to the payment processor.

^Thanks redwings.
After you pay, do you get assigned an adviser and can you log into housing. Also can you see your Tarheel tracker and other things on your Onyen.
Because right now, everything is blank for me.

@Matis, haven’t heard from Emory yet.

They will not declare you a Covenant until they see your tax transcripts… after which they will change your financial aid package to reflect no loans a 100% demonstrated need met policy.

The coa appears as about 43.5 k on the financial aid page.but the aid is only 41k? anyone know why?

^I thought the cost of admission was 41k?

What happens after we pay the deposit? Do we get assigned a counselor and does our Tarheel tracker get updated, and housing?

Matis you have to make an adviser appointment after you enroll. You can register for classes 24 hours after you enroll on a weekday. So are you still waiting to hear back from Emory? You think you’re going to choose emory over chapel hill or what?

I’m not really sure.
What about you? Did you apply to Vanderbilt?

Nah. I was planning on moving to NY but decided to stay in NC. I’m 100% going to chapel hill.

So, under your financial aid total, how much does it list if you’re an OOS? … How do you calculate this??? -Confused thanks in advanced. Im getting confused…

I’m looking from here.

[Tuition and fees](http://admissions.unc.edu/Aid_and_Scholarships/Tuition_and_Fees/default.html)

I guess “food” is under “personal” on this list. Depends how much you eat then LOL.

Welcome!

Is that on their website somewhere? Or did you find out about that from the package they sent you in the mail?

Haha… Is it that obvious I’m reluctant?

It’s just the whole COA thing. I would love to go to UNC and get the hell out of Oklahoma (who wouldn’t?), but I refuse to go more than $20,000+ in debt for undergrad. Professional mathematics isn’t exactly the most lucrative field, so paying that off would be a pain. Of course, if what raksudum is saying ^ is true, I may be in luck. If not, I’ll just plan on going to OU instead - regardless of how reluctant I am to do that.

@Matisyahu

That’s for 2011-12. [This one](Costs - Office of Scholarships and Student Aid) is up to date.

@somebeast: Thank you!

Anyone else changing their major? If so, how do we do that? I applied as an Interdisciplinary studies major, but I’m having second thoughts…

Turned down Vanderbilt today for UNC! GO TAR HEELS!!!

Where are you registering for classes? Or at least viewing what classes are open and what are full…

Can anyone register for the May 2 Transfer Student Welcome Reception?
I tried to click into the link provided, but I don’t see this event listed…
what if I don’t plan to attend? Is it still necessary to response?
thank you :)

I got into Vandy and UNC. Where should I go? Accepted to transfer into both. Which provides the better transfer experience? In regards to cost, Vanderbilt will actually be SLIGHTLY cheaper, while UNC will give me a free laptop.

I’m from NYC, went to a top 100 HS, but slacked off and ended up in my local public college. Where should I go and why?

@Yakov,

This is not a decision that we can make for you. You know yourself best and this decision is going to be purely subjective. The first question you need to ask yourself is WHY ARE YOU TRANSFERRING FROM YOUR CURRENT UNIVERSITY? What is it that it lacks and that you are seeking? Which school offers the better resources for you to attain that missing factor?

Both schools are top of the line, but day and night difference. From the student body to the college atmosphere, there are noticeable differences. Though alot of transfers and freshmen have the same dilemma that you are facing. For myself, I had to choose between Wash-U, Emory, UNC and was denied by UVA McIntire, all as a transfer. UNC won out after careful deliberation and a well thought out analysis.

This is not a decision that should be made on impulse or by relying on others and the media’s opinion (US News). Throw all ranks out and concentrate on what interests you. In hindsight, I think that a smaller, top private like Duke or Vanderbilt would’ve been a better environment academically (smaller classes, individual attention… not just being a small fish in a big pond to say), but UNC allowed me to challenge myself academically and acquire/ utilize skills that my previous university deprived me of. I decided against a private, because I wanted a more diverse student body and one that was not so money conscious. Private universities tend to attract more pretentious and image-aware individuals because of the price of tuition and they are legacy schools for the most part, kind of like Duke.
