Official UNC-Chapel Hill Fall 2012 Transfer Thread

On campus or off campus?

On campus- Hinton James and Ehringhaus

Hey guys, does anyone know what GPA we have to maintain on our last semester before transferring?

Do I still have to satisfy foreign language requirements if I have a “999” credit?

Hey Collegeboy1010,

I would try to keep at least a 3.0 GPA, but I think you’re fine as long as you don’t get any D’s or F’s. Though you should really try to perform your best because your overall transfer combined GPA is taken into account for graduate school and certain job positions. Don’t slack off too much. I mean I went from a 4.0 to a 3.5 before I transferred since I had that attitude which brought my overall combined GPA to a 3.97 or so. Still just saying, it would’ve been nice to transfer in with a 4.0 solid.

visited campus today and looked at some apartments. UNC is huge compared to the state school I’m at now. Is anyone else taking summer courses?

Thanks so much for the fast reply. I’m taking a really hard course load and I’m going to end up with a 3.5 GPA this semester. I had a 4.0 last semester. Do you think I’ll be fine?

I am in a similar case with grades. 3.9 first semester, but this second semester is a different story with mostly Bs. I had some traumatic family stuff happen but I feel like I shouldn’t use that as an excuse for my drop. What do I do?!

So our GPA will transfer with us??? I thought we started all over??

it does, but we are wondering if there is a big discrepancy between semesters if they will rescind an acceptance. Please god let’s hope not.

Honestly, I don’t think the drop would be enough for a resignation. However, it never hurts to call. Not sure about all of you, but I don’t like calling UNC…

Hey i accepted my enrollment today. Still waiting on university of wisconsin though but seems like I’ll be a TARHEEL next year! Is the transfer dorm a good one socially? Oh and I lost so many credits, is there a way to argue about credits and maybe get some more transferred?

Your GPA does start over but it will be configured into your Combined Transfer GPA that graduate schools will look at. Like I said, they are not going to rescind your acceptance unless you flunk out of school. You will be fine with a 3.0-3.5 GPA. While you should be fine with a 2.5+GPA, I would not suggest getting that lazy and unambitious yet. It’s best to keep up your good study habits, because you’r gonna need them and beyond at UNC!

Alright thanks so much for the help bruins!

nicopdx,

What kind of courses didn’t transfer over? If you go certain departments, you could possibly get some kind of credit for them. This is how it works for all courses that you transfer that are in Kenan-Flagler; you need to go through them separately to get credit… it’s a hassle but that is what you get when you go to a school that has three has a few separate school divisions.

Thanks BruinsJEW. It’s courses in Economics mainly, which is my major. I have taken all of the intro/theory classes and they would only transfer one of them and call it ECON 100. I’ll go there directly, thanks. What about the housing building for transfer students?

So, I went on the credit evaluation site, and I noticed a lot of the courses I took at my school are not on the list. Are there more courses that they decide not to list? I’m an incoming Junior and I haven’t received my credit evaluation. In an email I was told I was accepted as a Junior, but I’m starting to think about the probability of not having all my courses transfer… Am I over thinking it?

What is English 999?

-- I finished six finals over the last four days.

Same here. I had about 60+ credits and only 41 of them transferred over. The majority of them were intro classes (Psych, Micro/Macro, etc) so I’m not sure why they didn’t transfer over.

Anyways, after long deliberation I’ve decided to turn down my acceptance. I hope this will help a wait list student. Best wishes to those attending UNC in the fall!

I’m in the opposite position. Among my total 78 credits, only five are not transferable. But, two accounting courses, one English and one CSCE are accepted as general study. The rest are transferred to specific courses. However, the other school that accepted me only allowed me to transfer around 53 credits.

I’m a little confused why your introductory level social science courses did not transfer, as the curriculum is pretty much the same across board at most universities. Like style of instruction might be different, but the content should be same for the course.

What do you mean by transfer housing? There is not one residence on-campus that is specifically catered or marketed at “transfers only”. If you mean Ram’s Village or like Odum Village, I prefer Ram’s because it is more centrally located and closer to amenities such as Ram’s Dining Hall and the gym. Though if you want to make relationships with other people, I would live in a freshmen concentrated dorm like Hinton James (HoJo) or E-haus (Ehringhaus).

I lived in Ram’s Village and it was very spacious and nice living arrangements, but the social interactions were minimal. Though I wasn’t using my living spaces as an avenue to build those relationships.
