No, you should be able to finish all of your course work for an bachelor’s in economics on time, though you might need to do a summer session (depending on how many Gen Eds) you have left to fulfill.

In terms of jobs and MBA programs, I will say yes’ and no’. I’m not sure what kind of MBA program you’re trying to get into, but all of the top ones (Harvard, Penn, Northwestern, MIT, Stanford, etc.) require a minimum of 3-5 years. So it does not really matter what kind of undergraduate degree you get as long as you get a job and gain some great experience a few years out of school.

So I’m going to be completely honest with you about the difference between a degree from Kenan-Flagler versus College of Art and Sciences (Economics, Management & Society, Mathematical Decision Sciences, etc.). Kenan Flagler students fare a lot better paying and respected jobs, because of the companies that come directly to Kenan-Flagler to recruit prospective graduates. Economic majors have a harder time finding positions, because they’re not in that same social circle as Kenan Flagler students. The alumni base and its reputation is what allows KF students to get much better jobs than the rest of UNC students (who want a management, finance or consulting position). Not saying that is hasn’t been done, but those CAS students who get jobs at BCG, Goldman Sachs, McKinsey, Morgan Stanley, etc… are your Phi Beta Kappas, Morehead Cain, Robertson, Summa Cum Laude and so on and so forth type of students. You don’t have to have the same credentials from KF to get those same positions.

Thanks for your help! But I can still apply to the business school, and if I fail to get in I can still finish my degree as an Economics major student right? you said"Economic majors have a harder time finding positions, because they’re not in that same social circle as Kenan Flagler students." Do you know what kind of jobs can we find? Sorry but I do not have any idea of what economics students can do in the future…Thanks
Second question: is the LLC useful? I mean does that really help us a lot and what is it about? I am very confused… Thank you!

Economic majors can definitely get Analyst positions. Since Economic majors learn how to analyze economic models and make informed decision based on trends of the economies, companies usually hire them to analyze past performance of a company and to use their keen problem-solving skills to improve company’s profit maximization, annual revenue, etc. Economic majors can also do Management Consulting for similar reasons. And market research as well as working for the government as an Economic Consultant/ Analyst.

What is the LLC? I’m not exactly sure if that is for me or for the rest of the forum members, because I do not know what you’re entirely referring to.

Hope this helps!

Job prospects for Econ/ Biz majors are similar, but a degree from K.F. gives you a HUGE leg up in the game (mostly because of its reputation and the rigor/ quality/ diverse curricula that truly prepares you for most positions in the Business sector). Of course you choose electives that pertain to your concentration, so that even makes you stronger for an exact position. Like if you want Marketing, you take all courses related to Marketing but you have all of the foundations of business because of the general requirements which make you a great candidate for any type of biz position.

Difference between Management & Society and a BSBA degree is one is applied management and the other is theoretical management (M&S).

I’ve been offered a pretty good FA package by UNC. I’m OOS, but I’ll be receiving a nice grant. Also, they have offered me a couple thousand dollars in loans. I do NOT plan on accepting the loan.

When I log into MyUNC, under the “To Do List”, it says “ECSI Federal Perkins Loan MPN”. Is this something I need to complete even if I don’t plan on accepting the loan?

Hi BruinsJew! I need your help again! Do you know any nice counselor? Because the counselor I spoke to was not nice, and I was scared by his angry tone…So if you know any nice and helpful counselor please let me know! Thank you very much!!!

Unfortunately because of the unorganized academic advising department, I dealt with different counselors every time. You’ll learn faster that academic services and career services are not a strong suit of UNC.

I was notified of my decision w/r/t the waiting list by email early this weekend. Perhaps this process is done on a rolling basis. I get the impression that this year was extra competitive for transfer students. Best of luck in getting accepted.

Thank you so much for your reply. Congratulations for getting in ! I hope I get a reply soon. I am looking at Villanova School of business or UNC Chapel Hill-Kenan Flagler. Anyone else heard back and also if you could share your stats if you got in. Thanks !

Hooks:Athletics are the strongest ec that have carried me to college. Weak HS gpa and SAT scores but show discipline and upward trend.

I suggest that you hold off a year. For sophomore transfers, your high school record and college boards are a lot more important and weighed heavily in admission decision, because you would of only had one real semester of college work. Your high school stats are way below what UNC-Chapel Hill admits in their freshmen class for out of state candidates (and even in state).

Maintain that GPA and continue to show an upward trend, then you’ll be solid for junior transfer.
