When the common app asks the class standing status based on the number of credits, do you guys put in the number of credits earned at your institution or the number of actual transferable credits? I’m asking this because I’m not sure if a few of my credits transfer properly.

Please chance me! and I’ll try to do the same!

Good luck to everyone!

Someone from this website told me today that if you transfer in as a junior you must complete your bachelors degree in two years. Is this true? I’m a current CC student planning to apply for Fall 2015, and I’m not planning on getting my associates before transferring but I do plan on having about 50 units. It would take me probably 2.5 years then to complete my degree unless I could really load up on credits. Any input?

Hey, I checked on that again. Here is what my CC website says.

:“UNC-CH allows students eight semesters to graduate. Every fifteen hours you successfully complete at the
community college, translates to one semester completed. A student who earns an A.A. or A.S. degree will
have used four semesters in the eight semester rule. If the student is admitted to UNC-Chapel Hill, that
student will be allowed four semesters to complete the BA or BS degree. A student may petition for a fifth
semester, but should not expect to have automatic approval for that fifth semester. Summers are not
counted as a semester, so a student may attend in the summer to make up any deficits which may occur.
Bottom line: if you decide to transfer to Chapel Hill, you must attend full time”

Most of you have really impressive EC’s. For someone who has none really this is worrying. Does it really matter what your EC’s are?

@strandedinhell,

From the research I’ve done…it does matter. If you did really well academically and have only a few ecs, i’m sure you’ll be fine. BUT if you lack both, then you might be in trouble.

are you applying as a junior or sophomore?

I go to West Point and want to transfer to UNC.

Transferring From: United States Military Academy
Current Classification: Applying as a Sophomore
College GPA: 2.1
Major: War Peace and Defense
High School GPA: I believe it was around a 3.2 I graduated back in 2009
SAT (Reading and Math) : 1310
I have 2 very strong recommendations, one from a UNC grad school graduate.

After high school I worked for a little while then enlisted in the Army. I spent a year as a medic with the 82nd Airborne Division, I have multiple badges and awards for service. I ended up coming to West Point after about a year and a half enlisted. I am a nationally registered EMT. I know on grades alone I don’t stand a chance but I heard most school look at GPAs from military academies differently, and have heard that my service goes a long way in the admission process. Does anyone have any idea what my chances are?

@collegeguy42 , as a junior.

@Strandedinhell thats crazy. I would have to take summer courses for sure. Do you know if thats for all CC’s or just yours? If yours is close to UNC you may have an articulation agreement with it that establishes that rule.

@NCXfer , not sure but from what my CC’s website says (I copy pasted the exact thing) it would seem as it applies to every CC.

But I don’t really see the problem as long as you are taking courses that do transfer. 15 credits a semester at UNC should be enough. (maybe a summer as well)

Lets say though that I apply with 48 like I told you, which I will end up with at my current pace (I may take some summer classes though idk), I would have a whole lot of catching up to do.

48 doesn’t divide, so let’s suppose you take 45.

That means you’ve done 3 semesters in your CC. (by UNC’s counting) and you have 5 semesters left (summers at UNC not included) and 75 credit hours left (if Bachelors is 120 credits).

75/5 is like 15 credit hours a semester.

So once you transfer, if you take 15 credits a semester you’ll be good. This is without counting summers.

but again, do check with your CC ect. Maybe this rule isn’t for everyone!
