Official UNC-Chapel Hill Fall 2014 Transfer Thread

@hoot1990 , just wanna say I didn’t ignore you but I don’t have much knowledge regarding your background. Sorry :)

Does UNC count semesters as a certain number of credits or an actual period of time? Because either way I look at it I’m still behind I think. Those hypothetical 45/48 credits will be at the END of next year by the time Spring semester finishes. Meaning I’ll be applying with 36.

“Every fifteen hours you successfully complete at the
community college, translates to one semester completed. A student who earns an A.A. or A.S. degree will
have used four semesters in the eight semester rule”

So every 15 hours is a semester if I’m reading that right. That means it doesn’t matter if how long you take at your CC as long as you’re getting the right credits.

Also, I read a very scary stat. Only 40/60 percent of transfer students actually graduate. That’s… pretty depressing if true.

@NCXfer Yes, it’s true!! My boyfriend goes there now and in order to graduate (now his last semester there) he had to take summer classes along with doing 18 units one semester… crazy stressful!!

@karoline925

Can you give us some more info on how he transferred, what his stats were, what his major is and any difficulties? Thanks :)

Ohh ok thats a bit more fair. So its basically just a guideline to get you to take the right classes, not necessarily to graduate in a certain amount of time. What I mean is, you have to use those 15 credits/semester for classes towards your degree, not just electives that don’t contribute towards a degree.

Yeah. That’s why it’s important to take the classes that transfer.

@strandedinhell Sure!!! He was a CCC transfer student with a 3.68 gpa. He applied as a econ major to do business (because you have to apply to the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School separately) and he got in so now he is a business major with a focus in marketing. Even though his transferable gpa was on the lower end he had amazing extra curriculars that helped him get in… He was in 3 independent films, started a business selling things when he was 9 (like paintings and watches) but he actually made a lot of money from it. He also had an internship with a start-up company that he did while still at the CCC. He definitely has struggled with the course load and the rigor of it because of only having 2 years to complete them and the classes there are at a much higher level than compared to a community college. However, depending on your major it may be different for you as far as how hard the classes are you need to take and how many of them!! Hope this helped :)

I seriously envy people who have those type of EC’s haha. I see people here that have started their own business, etc. it’s crazy.

Are you applying to UNC Karoline?

@karoline925

Thank you so much, that helped a lot!

Also has started worrying me again haha. I have like no EC’s. Was in 3 films… had his own business. That’s pretty amazing.

The only thing I have other than my CGPA is that I’m on the colleges Math team.

Good thing for me and you, Stranded, is that we have plenty of time eh?

@NCXfer
Haha yeah. I just want to transfer already! I spend more time checking requirements than actually fulfilling them!

wondering if teaching math to poor children can count as an EC.

I literally spend so much time just looking at all these past transfer threads haha it kills me. Its almost all I think about.

Was it organized in any way? If so then maybe it counts.

Not really. I haven’t started. I know someone who does it and I thought about joining them. Anyway, I should concentrate on my studies! Or else I’ll be going nowhere really.

@NCXfer Yes I am actually for Fall 2014!! But I’m applying pretty much everywhere lol! But I know I’m jealous as well because I definitely don’t have those type of ECs either but I’m still giving it a shot! haha

@strandedinhell You’re welcome! I know I’m worried too, but he’s known he’s wanted to do business from a really young age so he did a lot of things to help him get into a great school for his major, where as I just figured out what I wanted to do last semester LOL oh well, you can only hope for the best :)

good luck to both of you!!

Thanks. You too. If you have not already, can you also post your stats ect ? How confident are you of getting in?

Could someone please chance me? I’ll return the favor! :D!

I’ll chance you for free @collegeguy42 (mostly since I’m not applying until Fall 2015, haha)

Will someone chance me? Planning on transferring as a Sophomore
