@PrincessMorales Did he say anything about the decision notification date at all?
I suggest you ALL ask where transfer students will be housed.
When DS transferred to Chicago 10 years ago, he was housed in an apt building with all the other transfer students, and no others, 10 blocks from campus! Hopefully things have changed since then.
It was a lonely, isolating experience and he quickly returned to his original school.
He also realized that he had missed the friends he finally had made at his first school, and because of the small class sizes, the isolation of where he was living and how little time he had to meet new friends cause he was in his room doing homework all the time, he had little chance of meeting others, since he wasn’t just down the hall.
He said early to mid May, @TNIU94.
But since most freshman responded and since they pretty much know who they want at their school, I’m guess it’s probably going to be early next week!
Aaahh, we’re so close! It’s probably less than a week now. It’s even harder to wait knowing that all the decisions have been made.
Yeah, honestly I’d be devastated if I don’t go.
I got in last year when I was in high school but couldn’t go because of financial reasons.
I don’t think it’s really fair for any of us to wait any longer if they pretty much know who’s in and who’s out.
@PrincessMorales I thought you were waitlisted
I was, then I negotiated with my admissions officer and she helped me get accepted.
^How exactly do you negotiate with an admissions officer? Just curious…
I sent the committee a letter stating my continued interest and when they released waitlist decisions I was in.
I should probably note that I sent in my letter/email after I received my other college decisions, but I probably should’ve sent it in earlier.
Did we ever hear for certain if they’re going to release decisions next week, or is it still “early to mid may”?
According the thread from last year, it’s on May 6&7, so I would hope we’ll get out decisions next Friday on May 6
That’s true, but also, they’ve never been released past a Wednesday (which makes sense, since the admissions officers don’t work on the weekends). So it could be earlier than that. Or it could be the Monday of the week after next.

I think this link is very interesting…if some of us don’t get in this cycle we could definetly be visiting students for a year or so. What do you guys think of this alternative? The due date isn’t until August so there’s time.
As a parent, I asked myself this question in a slightly different way. If someone told me that my child could take all of his/her classes at UChicago, have all the experiences at the College, even be in residence there but when the time came to graduate would have his degree certificate from a flagship state University, would I be willing to huge differential in tuition for that alternative?
My answer was an unequivocal No. Others may think differently
To me, I might consider this even though one’s visiting student certificates are only valid for a year. I really like this campus but of course the ideal situation would be to actually be a student at the school hahaha.
I wouldn’t consider it for several reasons, but one of the most practical is that visiting students don’t get any financial aid.
Guys!! Look what’s on the application status page!!! “Transfer decisions will be released to your UChicago account in the late afternoon on Thursday, May 5th. You will receive an email letting you know when you decision is available. Thank you for your time and effort in applying to the University of Chicago.” !!!
Good luck to all of you!! Don’t forget you worked hard and showed a lot of dedication in applying as a transfer student. You are winners whatever your status tells you next Thursday. Never forget that.
@VeryLuckyParent, thanks, it’s really nice to hear that reminder. Your son is really the lucky one, to have a parent who’s as supportive as you seem to be.
