General Comments: Being deferred is worst than being rejected! So I am moving on and going to a state school. I got into the honors college so I feel it will be a better fit for me anyway.

I agree with those who said they thought the deferred students with high stats may have been deferred due to GPA. That happened to my S last year … 33 ACT and an extremely difficult course load (all honors & AP’s except for the couple required classes that didn’t offer honors). The bummer was that he is in state & lots of kids in his high school who weren’t as well prepared academically got in. He got in other good schools, but that UM point formula can be a killer. He didn’t bother trying to get in off the waitlist in the end, although he probably could have (4.0 last semester with 4 AP’s). Instead, he chose another school due to a particular program they offered.

He has decided to pursue another programs and he isn’t happy at his current school, so he is trying to transfer. We’ll see what happens this time around.

I was so surprised when I got accepted. I thought for sure I would be denied based on my SATs. But I was really happy. It’s just such a big school…

My daughter has 33 on ACT, 4.0 unweighted GPA, class ranking #7/300, 180 hrs of volunteering work, over 10 years of violin performance, high school plays, school newspaper editor, leadership positions, excellent essay and teachers’ recommendation letters…, yet she got deferred by UMich. Can someone who knows the Admission at UMich tell me why? Does she still have chance? She applied in last December. It seems that UMich has been sending confusing messages; people are not sure what kind of admission policy the University adopts.

She is an OOS.
