4% Acceptance rate for interntionals? Please say that isn’t so

Once you’ve been accepted you have until May 1st to make your decision and submit your deposit. Sometimes, if you receive a scholarship (the notifications come a few days, weeks or even months after acceptance) they might request that you let them know if you’re attending or not and ask you to deposit early. TECHNICALLY, under the rules that govern university admissions, YOU DO NOT have to decide or deposit until May 1 to hold your place. But if they give you money, then I suggest making the deposit and then withdrawing it if for any reason you can’t manage the financing after you hear from fin aid (mid March to April) and subsequently choose another school. Do not double deposit, however, as that is considered grounds to rescind.

Another note, for those treating deferrals like they’re rejections: A deferral means that you MET the admit requirements, but that they do not yet know how you stack against the rest of the pool, and are waiting to see/compare you to the rest of applicants and to see how you continue to perform – so you’re not yet a “high” admit. Lots of deferred students get accepted later – and lots don’t. Some will be put on a wait list. I know it’s tough, but try not let your anger and frustration affect your performance at school or your feelings about Michigan. Keep your eye on the ball an enjoy your senior year – it will all work out.

does anyone know what time (EST) the emails were released yesterday?

mickjagger, the UC’s have 3 categories, and I believe Michigan does too.
Applicants are sorted into OOS, IS, and Intl pools.

@london52689: This time…

Last year:30,947 Applications and 15,436 Admitted It seems pretty good. Don’t know what will it be this year

@square: Sorry for misinforming you guys, my mistake! Thanks for the correction.

@Karry123: The number of applications to UM this year is bound to have grown by quite a lot. UM’s switch to the Common App will definitely force down its acceptance rate. I hate how everything’s getting more and more selective.

@boramk: It hasn’t been put that the acceptance rate is 4%, but in last year’s freshmen profile, only 4% were international.

Im an international student,k but my application was classified as OOS…so does UM have 3 categories or just 2?im studying in michigan. and my dad works here so im not on student visa…

And yeah, thanks square for that info. Anyone have any idea when the decisions are coming for the OOS and Int’l candidates?

I’d say sometime soon… square, loving your username. It’s so… well, square…

anyone found out that they got accepted today yet?
I just can’t focus in the class right now… haha

@ Lakersalltheway

It’s probably only 4% because not many international students apply to Michigan compared to other unis?

does anyone know if michigan only look at 10th and 11th grades?

Gr, why can’t they just tell us a set time? I don’t want to wallow around waiting for the decision…

does anyone know what time the emails were released yesterday?

First I know of was 11:30 yesterday. Good luck everybody!

@boramk: True, but out of those who apply, only 4% apparently get it. It’s like if 100 people apply, only 4 people will get it.

"does anyone know if michigan only look at 10th and 11th grades? "

They look at your entire transcript but will excuse rather poor grades in 9th if you pulled it out in 10th and 11th. Upward trend is much better than downward trend, for sure. Great grades in 9th won’t help you if you had trouble in 11th.

"does anyone know what time the emails were released yesterday? "

I think the emails started coming out Thursday at 11am till about 4pm.
