blackdarkeye, when you apply to U of M, you apply to one of the colleges within that school: College of LSA, College of Engineering, the School of Music, Theatre and Dance, and more (but the students who are applying to one of the three aforementioned colleges are eligible to apply for Ross). So, regardless of whether or not you apply to Ross, if you got into one of the colleges within U of M, you are admitted nonetheless. Ross is just a 3-year business program (starting as early as during sophomore year) available for the undergraduate students, and those who do not get admitted into this program by the end of their freshmen year can still attend U of M nonetheless and reapply to Ross the following year.

sorry for being dumb on this subject, but can you apply to more then one college of uofm?

^This is not a dumb question. People who ask questions are not dumb — the people who don’t ask questions and pretend that they know everything but really don’t are the morons.

Anyways, most people who apply to UMich apply to LSA or Engineering. You may not apply to both colleges. However, there are other programs – the preadmit ones – that you can also apply to, such as the Ross Business and the Pharmacy ones. However, the preadmit programs are generally very competitive compared to the other colleges.

so i can apply to lsa , engineering, and ross all at the same time?

Not both LSA and Engineering (which I kind of wanted to do…), but you can apply to LSA and Ross or Engineering and Ross at the same time.

I just got rejected by pre admit Ross (not suprised). So I am heading to UCLA.

Quick questions from a high school junior:

Would there be any reason why a high school student who wants to get into the Ross School not apply for the preferred admit?

Also, it seems from my prospective that it is an extreme risk for one who is admitted to UM but rejected for preferred admittance to attend UM and MAYBE get accepted as a freshman. (I’m not doubting myself but rather looking at all options). Can someone help with some advice/commentary on this matter, and for those who were rejected as a preferred admit, did this situation come into mind and how did it effect your decision in choosing what school to attend?

thanks

Hopp, I would have liked to go to Ross, but didn’t apply because I knew I had about 0% chance (seriously… I truely had no shot at all), and didn’t see the point in writing the extra essay when I know I can’t get in.

Sort of the same reason why everyone doesn’t apply to all the Ivy league schools who may still want to go if they could.

Sorry for the double post, but I forgot one question:

Are you allowed to add a letter of recommendation from a source other than school to your pre-admit application?

I wanted to have my manager give a letter but there wasn’t a way to submit it…

Got rejected today. SAT 2050 GPA 4.0+ But I’m still going to attend UMich. It’s worth the risk

I got into Ross. 1230 SAT, 32 ACT. No real hooks. Started my own business, won a local business plan competition, etc.

some stats I got from Ross today:

1100 applied for the Ross Preferred Admit
20% accepted (about 220)
about 90 will actually matriculate

hopp,
I wouldnt say it is a risk to go to Umich if you dont get in Preferred Admit to ross unless you got into another great business school. Umich is a great school and going there (even if you are not in ross) is impressive. also i think a larger % of applicants get accepted after freshmen year. My brother is now a sophomore at ross and loves it, and he was rejected preferred admit.

umich was definitely in contention had I gotten into pread, but just got rejected. its not worth the risk of reapplying sophmore year so i’m off to dartmouth now

rejected ><

Hey, last night I got an acceptance letter into Michigan. I think it might be into their college of LSA. However, I did PA to Ross but it did not say anything about Ross. Does Ross let you know at a later time? Can somebody help me please?

@BigPapi
they’ll let you know in 3-5 weeks with another email.

Good luck!

Can anyone describe how “hard” it is to get into the business school as a sophmore, not the preferred admit. I want to know how high the risks are. The average GPA admitted as a sophmore is about 3.67, so I was wondering how hard it is at Michigan to keep this GPA and what else do they look at, or what else should you do to make yourself a more likely canidate freshman year hoping to apply.
