Official University of Michigan Transfer Thread for Fall 2015

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone would help me with the common app, its the first time i’m applying with it and I’m having some trouble understanding some of it. Thanks in advance!

Hello! I am applying from U of M Dearborn as transfer for Ann Arbor’s College of Engineering!

My stats:

High School GPA: 4.01 (Weighted)
ACT: 27
College GPA: 3.74 (74 credits)

Just hoping I will get accepted, good luck to everyone who applied!

Can anyone please give me some insight.

I submitted my app on Jan 11th and called the admissions office on the 16th and they said my app was complete with all the materials (high school transcript, evaluation, test scores, college report, eat.) but on wolverine access the Other Material section is blank. Does this mean my app is considered incomplete or WA or is it okay? I want to know how soon I will hear back.

@transfergirl2015 Yeah same thing for me. Do not worry though, most applications have not been audited yet so none of the applications on Wolverine Access have been marked compete. The person I talked to said they start auditing after the deadline (Feb. 1st)

Hey all, just curious as to what the sentiment is on freshman year transfers.

My GF was waitlisted then denied applying out of high school. She had:

GPA: 3.5
ACT: 30
Was in a couple productions at her high school and loved making jewelry, and her older sister is a senior at U-M.

She ended up attending MSU Lyman-Briggs. She submitted her app almost 2 weeks ago. She got a 3.83 her first semester at State, and would have about 28 credits transferring after the Spring Semester.

Her essays were really strong and had some good reasons for transferring. On top of that, she has a great recommendation letter coming from one of her professors from the first semester. She’s also kept in contact with her admissions counselor and has been trying to express interest in Michigan as much as possible.

Just wondering if anyone has a similar story to this one or any idea what to expect. Obviously, we’re both really nervous.

Thanks!

I applied for the Fall of 2015 and should hear back any time after this next Monday!

HS GPA: 3.4
ACT: 27
College GPA: 4.0
Credits: 44
Recognition: Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society, Fall 2014 Dean’s List, and both my dad and grandpa went to the University of Michigan, too. (And an uncle)
Major: Philosophy (Pre-Med)

My first semester I withdrew from Calc and only had 6 credits, which is my biggest concern. The next semester I had 9 credits. Last semester I had 12 credits and I am now taking 17.

What do you guys think?

@TheDeltaG I have almost the same situation as her. I’m an MSU freshman and I have the same gpa as her with a letter of rec from one of my profs. Although they say they prefer incoming juniors, it sounds like she’s proven herself at a university that is considered more challenging than a community college (No offense to any of you CC people though haha). I went to Ann Arbor in late October and talk with the admissions counselor. He, in fact, transferred from CU boulder after his Freshman year. He said they take into consideration that big 4-year institutions are comparable to Michigan. They really want junior student for people are transferring from community.

I hope her and I both get in! We are almost identical except she’s in Briggs and I’m taking my pre-reqs for Broad. I also have more credits that will transfer to Michigan. 11 from IB. 13 Fall semester and 16 spring semester. I checked and made sure they all transferred in some way. (My major is Finance but I applied for LSA communications and hoping to apply to Ross in my sophomore year.)

@transfergirl2015 That’s definitely good to hear that they take into consideration the big 4-year uni. I know she’s really nervous since she got strung along for so long on their waitlist coming out of high-school.

Best of luck to you! Ann Arbor is a fantastic place, and I can say that with confidence after my trips up to EL to visit her. If you do get in, I can guarantee you’ll love it

Hey everybody,
I am currently an out of state community college student with hopes of gaining acceptance to LSA. I would love to delve into the b.s. i:n chemistry.
My stats: college GPA: 3.717, 54 credits now, 70 at the end of semester
Phi theta kappa member
My highschool grades were sub par at a 2.8
SATs:1700.

I’m hoping we all encounter pleasant decisions, I’m very nervous myself. I’m here for you guys!

@ShuttlepilotND‌ I can aid in specific questions although I’m not an expert I’ve used it plenty the last few days

@boilerup4purdue‌ thanks! But I just submitted my common app. No lie, I was kinda nervous when I submitted it, I really hope I can get in. CoE Aerospace Engineering major.

@shuttlepilotND you’re welcome. Good luck!

Hey guys, quick question, if im going to have over 60 units do i need to send in my high school transcript? I graduated 2003.

Nevermind, i just chatted with an admissions guy and he said they require it. Just ordered my hs transcript and its on its way.

Hi guys, just applied on January 27th. I called the admissions office to ask when I should expect to hear back, and they said early to mid-April. Will we really have to wait that long, if we applied now at the end of January?

@thegr3atest‌ Yes, 3 months sounds about right.

Applied to LSA as a junior for Fall 2015 from out of state community college

Major: Econ
GPA: 3.76 (some honors courses)
ECs: Phi Theta Kappa, VP of Honors Club, Multiple board positions in Business Club, Volunteer Club, Organized a community Food Drive for the local food bank, 2 Years of Varsity Lacrosse, Representative for the Lacrosse team in the Student Athletic Committee, and 2 years as a student ambassador.

I applied to LSA as a computer science major yesterday. However, I applied to the spring term and not the fall term, because I need to start as soon as possible because I think I may be a bit behind in terms of transferrable credits. I am currently in junior standing with about 70 credits. Will applying to the spring term hurt my chances, because I read somewhere that applying to spring/summer means you are trying to “backdoor” your way in. However that is not why I applied for the spring term, as I said before it is so I can start as soon as possible. I really hope applying to spring as opposed to Fall 2015 didn’t hurt my chances because I put my heart and soul into my application especially the essays.

Hey guys! I just submitted my application. Are my chances for Econ hurt by only having 54 units at the time I would enter in Fall 2015? I have a 4.0 GPA, but my high school GPA was only 3.0 UW. Any input?

Thanks and good luck to all of you!

Just wanted clarification. We get our UMID by email after we have submitted our common app, right? About how long does it take? I submitted my app January 28th and still have not received it.

@NCXfer‌ , are units comparable to credits? Would one unit be a credit? If so, I think with your flawless GPA you have a great chance.
