Official University of Michigan Transfer Thread for Fall 2015

@kyleMI what is FA?

@mganxx‌ FA = financial aid.

Speaking about financial aid, I read on a previous post somewhere that transfer students do not qualify
for much or any extra assistance. Does anyone know this to be true?

Also, if not accepted as a transfer… Is there a wait list or do u just have to apply for the next semester?

Thanks for any insight!

@grape12 i really doubt transfer students don’t qualify for financial aid. we definitely do.
also when i talked to the director of the under grad office of admission she told me that you either get accepted, rejected, or deferred. Similar to high school. They could ask to see your current semester grades. But idk if there is a wait list…i dont think so

By deferred meaning you could apply again for the next semester …like Winter?

How do u apply for summer? ( Or if u are denied for fall…summer is out too.)

I will also call admissions too… But just wondered if anyone else had these questions answered.

@Grape12‌

Here you go. On this page they explain their selection process. I know that it says Freshmen applicants but I think they evaluate the transfer applicants similarly. They also explain deferred/waitlisted.

I have a friend who transferred from a CC to CoE Fall 2014 and he told me his family contribution is about 5k/year . He received 20k+/year on loan + grant + aid. I’m not sure about scholarship.

I just received my financial aid summary and I will be receiving $20,000 in grants. So yeah, they definitely offer transfer students financial aid.

Thanks for all of your help! Good luck to everyone!

Does MSU egr 102 satisfy the computing requirement for the college of engineering

They do offer grants to transferred students as they still meet the need for in state students. However, most merit scholarships are for freshmen applicants. Nevertheless, you may apply for the departmental ones after declaring major.

Unfortunately, EGR 102 doesn’t even transfer. Good luck to all who are still waiting, and congratulations to those who got in.

I know it doesn’t transfer but does it satisfy the computing requirement

Got a rejected email today from CoE around noon.
Applied: 1/31. App completed: 2/15

Stats: Community College. 3.8 GPA. 45 credits when applied - would be 54 after this semester. Taking Diff. Eq and Physics 2. Planned to take Java (last prereq) over the summer. Work as a tutor, tons of volunteer hours at various locations…

The first thing the rejected email addressed was the completion of the prereq courses, then characteristics, essays, etc…

Good luck to everyone who’s still waiting! :smiley:

@chemguymaize‌ sorry to hear :frowning: if i may ask, They actually tell you the reason for rejection? So currently taking pre-reqs looks bad? Do they get into details about the essays?

Nope. A course must transfer to fulfill any requirement.

Accepted! CoE - Computer Science.
App Complete: 2/3
Community College - In State
3.78 GPA… 100+ credits – kinda weird… I went to school first for music, then electronics, and dropped out of both programs before starting this path. I only really expect them to take my engineering reqs, which are all A’s.
Also, I had to include a misdemeanor charge, which they were cool with. So don’t fret if you’re a criminal, hah.

@fn1518‌ Holy Shh $20,000 in grants?? That’s basically full tuition. Good for you!

have u finished all the reqs? @timrichards

Does taking the CoE prereq during transfer time hurt your chances?

@Andrewchen48‌ Yes, I took (am taking) all the reqs… still waiting to find out if my c++ class officially satisfies their Engr 101 requirement. @Abbgreat‌ I am currently taking two of the CoE prereqs: physics 2, and linear algebra. So, no, I don’t believe it hurts your chances, as long as you are currently enrolled in them. I did not send them a Midterm Report, so it was enough for them to just see that I was currently enrolled.
