@smalone3d There are plenty of off-campus housing options, even if you start looking mid-summer. There is a USC Housing group on Facebook that people are always posting on looking for subletters and people to take up vacant rooms. You can join the group once you get a usc email. I found my room this way pretty late in July.

Most students live north of campus, mainly on Menlo, Ellendale, Orchard. Some live west of campus, which is “sketchy.” As in, less student presence, more locals live there. People have told me the lighting is very bad at night. Aaand there was a fatal shooting in that area last year. BUT living there is a good $100-200 cheaper per month compared to living on the north side. And some options are significantly closer to campus.

As for dorms. I can only speak for Parkside. I think all my transfer friends that dorm live there …and don’t like it very much. They complain about how stuffy it is in the summer.

@collgekid45
3.2 gpa at UCSB, 4.0 gpa at ccc,
completed all requirements, transferred in max units with a few to spare,
internship at start-up software company,
two letters of recommendation

The shooting was northwest of campus in an unpatrolled DPS area and non campus cruiser area, not the same area as the “west side”. Yes, the quality of the west side is less than that of the north, but there are yellow jacket private security on most corners and is DPS patrolled and campus cruiser friendly.

They’ve recently bumped up security around campus, especially in the evenings, when a student I.D. is required to get on campus after 9 P.M., I believe. Most people dislike it because having a bunch of dudes walking around in yellow jackets is annoying, but personally it gives me some peace of mind.

When do they usually ask for Spring Grade requests? I am just waiting to hear when they first make contact with any transfer students. What do you think?

I’m so scared…do you guys think I have any chance? I have a 3.4 this quarter, will have an estimated ~3.6 by the end of spring quarter. I had three rec laters, two good, and one amazing from a high-ranked public official in Los Angeles who knows the dean of admissions personally. He personally spoke to him awhile ago for me when they got together to watch the superbowl, but I dunno how much that’ll help… :(

Also should mention I finished all the undergrad req/rec courses, my essay was really weak, and all I have is a nice internship position I had for about 5-6 months. This is my third time applying (rejected in HS, appealed). I struggled in HS because of some personal struggles (family problems, financial problems) and had about a 3.0. Basically, I’m banking on the letter…lol. I’m screwed :(

@tomred last year at a cc i got a 3.0 and 2.8 respectively. my first quarter for my soph. year i got a 2.9 and right now…might be looking around the same range. :/

I had a 2.3 in high school I am a polisci major taking polisci classes I have a 3.6 in the spring semester first semester I interned for Romney for president. What are my chances?

@tomred I am not sure. There is no way to find out my grade for all my classes. I think I have a C in calc B minus sort of in Chem and maybe a C in bio. It all depends how I do in my finals. And I applied for Business but first I applied for Lifespan health for the past 2 app periods. Thanks so much but I don’t want to be like optimistic. I want to be realistic.

@ iloveasianguys I don’t know particulars as far as GPA but I do think people tend to be around 3.5 and above. The truth is life is not over for any of us if we don’t get into USC. Remember, college is just a little (4 year) part of our journey which will be much longer than that. You also can consider grad school too. Also, I know my older sister always said that there are happy people and unhappy people at every college. Sometimes its a matter of finding the good in each day and each situation.
That said, of course we all want to get in. I hope this is your year.
