Yep. Good luck! The guy from the 2011 transfer thread got in with a HS GPA of 2.9 and applied as a freshman (so he had less than 30 credits).

Anybody know if a 29 on the ACT is good? This is my composite score and I got a 28 on my English and 24 on Math. Does USC not count Reading and Science?

@marty thanks so much for that clarification.

this is open to anyone: do you guys think i have a good chance. i have been applying to sc for the past two years now and my gpa is like a 2.9. if i get a 4.0 this sem i can bring my gpa to like a 3.1. do you think my 4.0 is good enough for them to see my improvement and possibly like get in next year. i also hope to get 4.0 next sem too but this is my third year of college and i really really really want to go to usc. please let me know. i don’t have ec’s btw bc i want to focus on my grades

iloveasianguys - I have been wondering how you are doing this year. I really don’t know what will happen when you apply again to SC. That said, I hope you can enjoy your third year of college wherever you are this year. As you know I went to a cc last year and it was really great. I’m at SC this year and it is great. The point is you can have a really good time wherever you are and you can get involved and meet people. I hope it all works out for you. Also, remember that USC has great grad schools.

Hey guys. So I’ve been wondering about this for awhile, but does USC weigh class rigor or GPA more?

Right now I’m taking PE (yeah, it’s a requirement here ***), but I’m afraid that USC might look at this as me taking an easy class just to boost up my GPA. Do I drop this in favor of a more rigorous class? Like College Math or Bio? I was planning on taking these courses in the Spring anyway, but since I’m sending in my application during Spring semester it may be too late.

@katie I am so jealous that you are at usc lol but see I REALLY want to be part of the undergrad lifestyle - greek ect ect so yeah I’m back at cc not any more davis. i was supposed to go to cal lu in thousand oaks but i mean my ultimate goal is go transfer and so i convinced my parents to let me go to cc this fall and hopefully i can do that with the spring bc my parents want me to like not stay at a cc and um idk i’m not liking my cc environment as much as my previous one and i changed majors so that’s kinda bad bc i don’t like business at all lol but it’s better than chem i think. um can i ask your stats btw? and how to get a high gpa at a cc and how to stay motivated bc tbh i’m not at all motivated whatsoever right now

ALSO does anyone know if um they will see that this is my third time applying and factor that into their decision? like will admissions know? because i want to show improvement from my past two application periods.

I am a Community College student looking into transferring to USC for sophomore year. I will most likely have 16 units by the end of this upcoming winter and will have 13 units by the end of next spring. These units are transferable by the way. My question is, since application deadline is February 1 and i would only be able to submit 14-16 of those units for that time, would USC look at my high school record and SAT admission consideration? I know having 30 units or less USC would look at your HS and SAT for admission consideration but if you have 30 units or more those two things wont be taken for admission consideration (HS Transcript would still be needed). I would want to request a Spring Grade Report in order to show USC that I will have 30 units complete by the end of spring and avoid having them take my HS record in consideration since my grades where not the best but I also never took the SAT! I have been passing my classes with A’s and I plan to keep it that way but I really would not like to see a rejection because of my HS record.
My last question was, my AP Spanish Language score was 4 which gives me 3 units over here at my CC but if i submit it to USC when applying would I get 4 units instead of 3? The USC website says that having a score of 4 or 5 will give you 4 units.

@JayLopz, you need 30 units by the end of spring for them not to consider your high school grades. The 4 credits from AP Spanish can be used as part of the 30 units so you should be good. Also, you don’t request a spring grade report, they do. Most people applying to transfer in as a sophomore generally get one.

@TheShowGoes0n Ok thanks a lot. Since I am bearly starting to work on my 12 units for this semester I should create an account on commonapp and start working on my essay?

JayLopz - I transferred my sophomore year into USC and just finished my 2nd full week. To encourage all of you, yes, it is awesome!
That said, I had 18 units all transferable at the end of my first semester (I took one class the summer after I graduated from hs) and applied at the end of January. I finished another 15 units by the end of May. I did not get a Spring Grade Request and was admitted in May (or end of April). I was on the Trojan Transfer Plan which basically gave me a chance to meet with a USC rep and make sure my plan included all transferable classes. I had a 4.0 for my summer course and fall courses and then ended up with a 3.9 as I earned one B in the Spring.
Good luck to everyone!
Fight On!!!

hhtransfer Thanks!
Katie617 Thanks for the encouragement and unfortunately I will only have 9 transferable units for this semester but I plan on taking 7 units for winter and 13 units for spring. Plus I need to submit my AP Spanish score! Hopefully they see that I really want to transfer for sophomore year even though I could not get as many units possible for this fall semester

I’ve been thinking about dropping 3 classes in favor of a foreign language. I’m on a credit limit of 14. If I drop the 3 classes, I would max out the 14, versus the 13 I’m taking now (all are transferable). But would dropping 3 classes in favor of 1 look good? My schedule would no longer look so rigorous, although the classes I’m dropping are PE, Health, and Leadership(this one isn’t transferable).

so I guess it’s rigorous schedule vs rigorous class.

@theshowgoes0n no they are not required. I have attended various transfer info sessions and they all informed us that they are neither required nor recommended. I’m a Marshall admit. Fight On!
