Hey everyone, I’m not sure if anyone on here will have an answer for this, but I figured I would try here before I call the school. I was admitted as a transfer last year (for the fall), and I put down my enrollment deposit, applied for housing, got a usc.edu email address and everything. However, I got cold feet and decided to stay at my current institution. Now, I’m regretting not going to USC, and having been here for another two months has really solidified my decision to leave. I know it’s a total long shot, but do you think my offer of admission still stands since I accepted it and put my enrollment deposit down and everything? I kind of never told them I wasn’t coming, and I still get emails from them. Or do I have to reapply? I was hoping to maybe start in the spring, but again I’m sure I’m grasping at straws here, just wondering if anyone here might know something about this. Thanks so much, and good luck to everyone applying for next year!

@seets I would contact them. That is a weird situation.

@Dahbes If you can explain the Ws, I think you would be fine. Its mainly a point of theirs to make sure you finish courses you start, but something changing in your life would be understandable (in my opinion).

If I’m transferring in as a sophomore, do I still need to do ALL the major requirements? Or maybe I should just go in undeclared?

I’m also confused about the foreign language requirement. How many semesters of it do I have to take in order to be eligible to apply as a transfer student?

@randombookie It depends on what major you’re applying to. For example, if you’re applying to be a business administration major in Marshall, then you have to satisfy all of the requirements (e.g. writing requirement and math requirement) in order to be considered. There isn’t a university requirement for foreign languages, so I’m not sure what you’re really referring to. Once again, it depends on what major you are applying to. I believe some majors have a foreign language requirement?

@ajmy17 I think randombookie may be referring to the language requirement stated on the articulation agreement. Like you said there is actually no foreign language requirement for Marshall School of Business.

@randombookie

you can check the additional course requirements here: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1213/TransferringToUSC_2012.pdf for your specific major and read if you actually have a language requirement.

If no clear answer you should just call a USC counselor.Yes I think you can apply as undecided, again I am applying as a junior so If CC is not enough of a good answer you should just check with a USC counselor.

@randombookie I agree with fdominguez. It can never hurt to get in touch with your USC counselor. I traded emails back and forth with mine throughout my application process. :)

@ ajmy17 and @fdominguez: thanks for replying and yes my major has the fl requirement. I’m just confused as to how many semesters/units I have to have for a foreign lang.

Also, does anyone know if you have to fulfill the major requirements if you’re going in as a sophomore?

does anyone know if like a group of admissions reads the app essays? long story short, i was working on my essay in school and saved it and sent it to myself. i dont remember if i deleted it but when i checked back like 3 days later bc ppl were using that comp it was in the recycling bin. i logged in in another comp and when i saved an essay i was working on i saw another bio doc that isn’t mine. so that means ppl can see my stuff even though they were logged in with their own info? i’m paranoid bc i don’t want someone seeing my essay bc i worked really hard on it and admissions reading the same essay like twice…please help!!!

I’m currently a Freshman at Ohio State University and am looking to transfer to USC after this year. I’m from California and got rejected to USC when I applied in high school. I just have a question for all of you regarding getting letters of recommendation and also the whole Common App Mid-Year report. Is anyone else in the boat where they feel like it’ll be extremely awkward asking professors to fill out forms that are required for transferring? I didn’t really want to tell anyone that I was going to transfer, but it looks like I’ll have to now.

Hello everyone, I am looking to transfer to USC next year. I am a little confused on the letter of recommendation/registrar section of the common app. Do we need letters of recommendation? and if so, from whom? and the registrar section is merely for our transcripts, correct? Replies would be much appreciated. thanks

So I am looking to transfer into Annenberg as a junior…I am trying to do all the general ed requirements…

I don’t understand their foreign language requirement…I really don’t want to take 3 semesters of spanish when i did two years in high school.

You have to RyaFLo…or you can test right into Intermediate Spanish and just have to take one.

@RyaFlo, From my experience as an Annenberg alum, you don’t need to fulfill the foreign language to transfer into USC. as @cccblues mentioned, you can test into a higher level or test out of it depending on how you perform.

@seets, I would reapply, but request an interview. Some schools/majors at USC offer interviews (I know Annenberg does), in which case you can explain your situation. Contact the office of admissions for your particular major and ask to speak with an admissions counselor.

Hi Everyone! I personally transferred to USC a couple years ago and recently graduated. Transferring is a very long and arduous process, but it’s the best decision i’ve made. I know that CC was very useful to me as a potential transfer, and provided lots of moral support! I’d really like to give back and offer help if any of you have any questions I might be able to answer about transferring and USC life and all that. Good Luck and Fight On!

@gmpink3 where did you transfer from (community college or University)? Also, how did you feel when you got there trying to fit in as a transfer.

@cccblues: I transferred in from a community college, but I’ve also heard of many who transferred in from cal states.

As far as how USC regards its transfers, I would say that they don’t go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The orientation for transfers, as you might have heard, is only one day compared to a week for freshmen. Be proactive, join clubs and get to socialize with other transfers and people in your major. It will not be as easy as starting school as a freshman where everyone is new and trying to make friends, but I guess the same goes for every school, right?

The one thing I will say though, is to try to move in as soon as possible for housing. This gives you some time to explore campus and meet with others who are newly admitted. It’s not easy, but if you’re friendly and willing to engage in new activities, it will be ok and you will have fun.

Transfer from a northern CCC

Hey, I am a current freshman at UCI. I was wondering if it would be advisable to take my second year at SMC and then transfer to USC for my junior year, knowing that CCC transfer applicants have priority over UC transfer applicants.

Thanks for your help.
