Guy’s do any of you know if transfer students qualify for a fee waiver?

Has anyone gotten any brochures from SC? Today is the second brochure I get and I’m psyched I just want to get that acceptance letter already, I mean hopefully! But damn we are getting dam close.

Hey guys, enjoying the discussion here. I have a few questions, since there’s apparently quite a few knowledgeable people in this thread.

I’m applying to transfer into Marshall from a CC with 19 units completed by the deadline in Feb. and 14 units more to take in the spring. I have a 4.0 for sure, and possibly two convincing referrals from my Accounting 1 prof and a Business 1 prof who attended and taught at USC.

I have HS records overseas, but they are pretty terrible (would probably equate to under a 3.0 GPA). My /1600 SAT is 1360 so I hope that counts for something. My /2400 is only 1970 though.

I’m basing a whole lot on transferring to USC after my first year - I left my home country for a shot at something big and really don’t want to be living out where I don’t want to, to be attending a CC - UCLA and UCB’s requirements are also totally ruthless and the pressure will really mount if I can’t get out after my 1st year. Can anyone give me an indication as to my chances to ease my mind for the time being? Is a 4.0 a golden ticket in or is Marshall just that selective?

As an aside, I don’t have any job experience I can put down. Is this going to hurt?

May be too late to ask this but: what can I do right now to make my application look as good as possible? I’ve joined 1 club, but unfortunately that’s all I have time for. I’m job-seeking but I can’t get any on-campus positions due to my foreign records. I have a good angle for my essay and I’m confident it will be above average.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Does USC look at the spring grades?

Because I didn’t realize how different the GEs were from the IGETC and realized that only 2/6 classes fitted for USC. However, I can get the rest of the USC general classes on my spring semester.

Thanks for any help:)

@randombookie They look at spring grades explicitly when they request them, but you can send them anyway if they deny you as a sort of appeal based on what people did last year.

@epicer I think they would consider your high school record, so it might be difficult to get in. If you have at least 30 credits completed when you apply, they only consider college.

Is SAT required this year? I currently have exactly 30 credits.

Wow okay I barely found out that USC wants 30 units by the time of application which kinda sucks for me because my hs grades are not so hot.

How much importance do they put on hs grades in contrast to college grades?

Also, can I use my AP credits as a part of the 30 units?

thanks for all the help :)

@hwen If you have exactly 30, probably not. I did not send my scores last year.

@randombookie I would probably guess you could. I would email the territory manager about that. No idea of the amount of importance, but I do know they favor new course work over old course work.

Idk about you guys
But I feel pretty damn good about getting in
I have 48 units a 3.9
I’ve met the English requirement & gone over the math requirement for engineering majors.

I asked my admissions counselor representative for my UC college, and she said that the thirty units are up until you enroll at USC (Fall, Winter, Spring). And also those units are semester units not quarter units (ie. UC system), so they would be converted that 1 quarter unit is 1.5 semester units. Can anyone confirm?

@keepfighting1

I believe you have it backwards, the sum of all your quarter units divided by 1.5 is equal to your total semester units.
Therefore 1 semester unit is 1.5 of a quarter unit or a quarter unit is worth .66667 of a semester unit. However you want to see it I just like to get technical lol.

@fdominguez

I thought the same thing at first, but I looked it up and 1 quarter unit is 1.5 semester units. Sounds weird to me but I guess that’s how it works haha

@keepfighting1

Not sure where you are getting your info from just ckecked the transferring to usc 2013.pdf and the 2014 I got int the mail again, both say the same thing in the FAQ page 20 question #4

“4. Will it be difficult to transfer to USCs semester schedule if Im at a quarter-system school? No. Quarter-system schools are usually compatible with USCs fall and spring-semester start dates. To determine their semester equivalent, divide quarter units earned by 1.5 (for example, 45 quarter units equal 30 semester units). Courses must be at least 4 quarter units to earn equivalence or General Education credit”

Can’t find a source more reliable than USC’s own transferring brochure

hello guys, I have some question regarding transferring to usc… I’m majoring in architecture and my current grade points average is 3.5 from last semester in los angeles pierce community college… I have my portfolio right now… and ready… I don’t think i finish the transferring college plan in my community college, but I really wanna get out in this college… is their any possibility to get in…

@fdominguez

You’re right. I got mixed up.
Do you know when those 30 units are supposed to be done by?

And also, how did you get a transfer packet from USC. Does everyone who basically got rejects last year supposed to get one?

@keepfighting1

So I am not 100% on what everyone says here which is that you have till spring to get the 30.

In the transfer packet faq question #2 this it what it says:
2. If my college grades are excellent, but my high school record was just average, could that affect my admission to USC?
If you complete at least 30 transferable college semester units in a strong academic program, our decision focuses primarily on that work (though you must submit a full high school transcript). If you have earned fewer than 30 units
at the college level, however,
your admission will depend on a combination of your high school record, results of SAT or ACT tests taken during high school, and college courses completed to date.

I guess best answer comes from a usc counselor or past threads.

As a matter of fact that is one of the things that has me pretty excited, this year is my first year applying and they sent me a 2014 transfer brochure with my name and apparently a USC id. Not sure if it is because of the common app or what but I got pretty excited when I saw it. Besides that they also sent me ,one week afterwards, a deadlines brochure again with a USC id I am guessing everyone is supposed to get one I just got pretty dam excited. The 2013 transfer brochure pdf is on USC’s transfer site also but not the 2014.

Hey guys, whAT is the deadline to apply as a transfer student to USC?

February 1st for most majors but start applying right now!

@fdominguez

Are you applying from a CC?

@keepfighting1

Yes, located in south San Diego
