Official USC 2014 Transfer Thread

Am I the only transfer student applying to Marshall for fall as an entering junior with 65-70 credits?

From what I’ve seen, almost every other entering junior has 70+ credits.

You can only transfer in 62 credits anyway.

@RandomNewGuy

Acutally the transfer unit limit is 64, I do get your point though

@esai23

I am also applying as a junior but will have exactly 64 units by transfer time

does anyone know in the common app how we can add multiple colleges we have attended??? i think we can only add the current college but i have attended three colleges so far. well two and my third one is my current one. do we do this in schools & universities??? im so confused…

and no @esai because right now i have 72 credits -_-" but as i called usc before they will only like count/transfer 64 so im assuming the rest goes to waste?

Thanks for the input guys. I do remember reading that only 64 credits would transfer but started to doubt that fact and wondered whether USC gave some leeway since I saw tons of people hoping to transfer with 70 + credits.

Well, I guess this means I don’t have to take a lot of credits over the Summer!

Hey everybody I’m a student at Santa Monica College and am applying as a poli sci major for fall 2014.

I attended Purdue University and did not like it, so I left during the first semester.

I have my english pre reqs done and my recommended poli sci classes as well.

Overall, I have 31 units and a 4.0 gpa and I am a PTK member.

I have a couple questions…

1) Do you think I will get in?

and more importantly 2) I am thinking of taking a poli philosophy class this winter…say I get a B or C and it drops my gap, does USC look at your post application grades if they are already good enough?

Thank You, DP

Hello!

So I had originally reserved a spot for me and my parents to visit USC tomorrow at 11 am, but at 6:20 pm today, my mother didn’t tell me that I would have to make room in order for my younger siblings to come. I tried editing the number of group members in my party but I ended up accidentally cancelling my reservation.

Now I’m freaking out because I can’t create a new reservation for tomorrow. I’m assuming it’s because the admissions office closes at 5 and they close of reservations at that time.
I still have the email for my previous reservation (the one w/ me and my parents), but I’m worried. Will it still work? Am I still able to attend the tour or do I have to create a new reservation on a different day?

Someone reply soon please! I’m honestly stressing out like crazy now and it’s not making it any easier with my parents yelling at me. D:

Forgive me for the double post. I’m using the iphone app. But I would also like to know if USC accepts the igetc? I’m currently a student at college of the canyons & after the spring semester, I will have 56 units completed…also, is there lower division classes that USC requires along w/ the GEs?

Hey guys, I’m a current freshman at a CC in North Carolina. I had a question about the requirements. I’m applying to Annenberg for journalism, and I was wondering if there was anyone that could give me an example of some of the classes that would satisfy groups I, II, III and V of the GE courses recommended for admission according to this brochure: http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/private/1314/TransferringToUSC_2013.pdf

I’ve been told there is a page on the website where I can find classes that match these groups, but I’m unable to find it. Could anyone help?

Thanks!

Hey everyone, I found this guide from USC to be extremely helpful.:

This is the personalized guide, found here:[Transfer Planning - USC Undergraduate Admission](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/apply/trans_planning.html)

@NCXfer Groups I, II, III and V of the GE’s are as follows:

Group I - western cultures and traditions. I think of classes like European and American History. It says anything that focuses on the Classics (Greeks and Romans) and Judeo-Christian traditions, so perhaps a class on catholicism/christianity and/or judaism?

Group II - Global Cultures and traditions. This is geared more towards the culture of non-western societies, such as Russia, Africa, Australia and the Pacific. NOTE:Courses in U.S. or Latin American political history, Israel or the Middle East in the 20th century,
or modern Asia are not accepted. Therefore, pre-modern Asia would be appropriate as well.

Group III - Scientific Inquiry. This seems to focus mostly on science classes that involve a lab. Examples include biology, chemistry, and physics. Do not take classes that are not hands-on, such as earth sciences like geology and environmental science, as well as anatomy.

Group V - Arts and Letters. This is all about critiquing some form of art - whether visual, written, cinematic, etc. Important note is not to DO the art (studio arts, piano classes, cinema classes, etc.) but to take classes that analyze and criticize the artworks presented. It says thematic or classes based on an era or genre are preferred. I’m thinking of Art History classes, as well as Literature-based classes such as Transcendental Literature that include readings but also include analysis and critiques of the author/artist’s work.

I hope this helps. I’m no expert, but this is what I gathered from the descriptions from USC’s page.

Yay, finally someone applying for Annenberg!

There are a wide range of courses that fulfill GE I, but I used an Art History course to satisfy that requirement. Transfers commonly use an anthropology course to satisfy GE II. A hard science is required for GE III - something like Geology, Chemistry or Biology (but no environmental biology!). And if you can stomach World Lit or a simple humanities course, you can knock out GE V.

I was lucky enough that when I visited USC that I was given the past articulation history for my OOS community college. You should see if you can score the same.

@ dpatricparsi

I don’t know much, but to share what little I know, I’ll say that USC will most likely look at post application grades.

If you look at the USC Transfer Decision Thread 2013, you’ll notice that some people said “Spring Grade Request” because USC first wanted to check their spring grades before officially accepting them.

@Nickkwooddd The Registrar should be a school official who have access to your academic and disciplinary info, in my case I asked our Dean of Class to write the report for me.

Thanks for clearing that up!

And @RandomNewGuy, I’m in NC, so I doubt anyone from my CC has ever transferred to USC, but I suppose I could see if there is anything like that haha.

For those of you applying to Marshall, have you completed all the pre-reqs?

Here’s my situation -

I had no intention of applying to USC till 4 days ago, due to which I haven’t completed the Writing requirement.

I “Cleped” out of Eng 101/102 the classes which satisfy that requirement. Because of that, I was allowed to take ENG 251 (American Lit 1 - for which ENG 101/102 is required) and I will be taking ENG 252 this semester.

I understand that USC does not accept clep credits, and when I spoke with an adviser, he said they won’t hold it against me. (The fact that I wouldn’t have officially completed the writing pre-req)

But still, I am just really tensed up because I really would like to study at USC.

How many “activities” is everyone including on the app? So far I have five and I don’t want to include too many. I included one sport team, another in’l volunteer trip, work, and so on.

I’m kind of worried about getting in now. I had all A’s and just 1 B until last semester when I stopepd trying. I just got my grades - a C in Calc and a C in Physics. That’ll look bad because semester by semester it clearly shows that I am slacking off. Most of my semesters are 4.0 but the last one is 2.8ish…

What is everyone elses grade trends?

I am feeling pretty good about my application, it would be sick if we all saw each other at USC once we are there.

Going for Marshall

Currently I am at a CCC with
GPA:4.0 All prereqs for Marshall completed
Missing: diversity & #III from GE’s(taking in spring)
Units:52(will have 66 by end of spring)
EC’s/Awards:
Phi Theta Kappa member
Manager of School Radio
President and Vice Presidents List Continously
Started Organization to help student at my CC attain Cheaper Textbooks
Officer @ Business Club
You name it lol.
Letters of Rec: (3 total)1 Strong One from my accounting proffessor who helped me start the organization, and 2 good ones from my counselour and my transfer counselour.
Writting: From being a book keeper and managing my dads business at 11 years old, to failing in med school I get enough to talk about.

I know there is no guarantees but I have spared blood sweat and tears just to be in USC, like I am sure a lot of you guys have good luck to everyone!

Does anyone have stats on how many transfers (outside USC) are accepted into Marshall?

It looks like there’s going to be some tough competition. :D

Btw, @trojanpower - I don’t quite understand what you mean by “All pre-reqs for Marshall completed; Missing: Diversity and #3 from GE’s”

Why dont you look for the transfer decision threads? there is bunch of stats from past accepted, and sgr’ed transfer students
