How heavily will they rely on HS grades if I will have 28 units completed instead of 30? Does the 2 units really matter?

High School GPA: 3.4 (With several D’s and an academic dishonesty issue in my senior year)
SAT: 2190(W:780, M:740, CR:670)
Superscore: 2230(W:780, M:760, CR:690)
College: Fordham University
College GPA: 3.8
Major: Finance/Business Administration
EC’s: Finance Society, Economics Society, Alternative Investments Club, Compass Fellowship

Notes: My high school GPA is garbage, and I was also found responsible for academic misconduct in the first semester of my senior year. However, the consequences were fierce, and I have now owned up to my mistakes. I’ve only completed my first semester of college and am currently in my second semester. I’m only applying to USC-Marshall School of Business.

From a veteran that has been on and off cc about transferring to usc, you definitely need 30 credits or they’ll base you off you highschool grades and sat/act if you have any less than that. Even though it is just 2. I was in the same position as you (I literally had 28) and my high school record was **** so I didn’t end up applying last year.

So get 2 more credits or apply with the knowledge of them judging you by your high school record and say/act.

@CoolKid

Were you transferring from a 4 year or cc? Were all your classes on the articulation history and transferrable or no?

I got mixed messages when I called AO, the guy that worked with me last year when i was senior said they could look at my highschool, but it shouldn’t really be an issue as long as I was close. My regional transfer counselor on the other hand was either having a bad day or really agrees with you, and said basically short of 30 really hurt.

I guess we shall see.

@usc2usc

I’m coming from a 4 year university. Also it has to be 30 TRANSFERABLE credits, not just credits in general. I have 34 credits but only 28 transferred so I ended up not applying. I made sure I took classes that transferred. I’m a legacy and I’ve been planning to transfer for a very long time and making sure my college record is perfect cause my high school record didn’t cut it

I had 34***

Obviously I have more now and will have even more after spring semester

Hi,

I’m looking to apply for CS at Viterbi for 2015. Does anyone know if we can list our Github pages (a list of work to open source projects) as an EC?

Thanks.

@Coolkid094

I owe you huge, I called USC and was able to pull a rabbit out and sign up for 2, 1 credit PE classes since they accept up to 4. So I will be right at 30. I emailed them the update so they’ll put it with my common app. The rest of my classes have come from articulation history so hopefully I should be good on that end.

Thank you again! and for all that might be short on credits consider what I did.

@USC2USC

That’s great, I’m happy for you. I hope to see us both at USC next year! :D

Let’s hope our chances are good enough.

did you work hard on your essays?

I did, I had my college counselor review them from high-scool, and I have a pretty writeable past with my family, that I wrote a book about freshman year of high-school.

You applying as a junior? What school you applying too?

Question:

I called the admissions office to inquire about assigning a registrar and letters of recommendations. I was not sure if these were required as a transfer applicant. I was told that none of these two are required. True or false?

The common app seems to require at least 1 letter of rec. Was I misinformed?

@glamiex

I mean the admissions office takes over any advice we can offer you, but I was under the impression that both were required. I at-least had one teacher fill a rec, and registrar report. But it might depend on your selected major. I think you can submit without having it filled though. Sorry thats not much help, I’d go with whatever the AO said.

This is probably a ridiculous question, but where do I send my hs and college transcript? I don’t think it’s part of the common app. Is it mailed to the school? Also, how many short essays did you guys submit? I did the two USC short essay questions, do I need to do the common app personal essay too??

@Clordia - I’m pretty much in the same situation you are in. Like you, the requirement I lack is the writing requirement. My USC transfer adviser told me that it’s no big deal, but it’s always nice to hear confirmation from another source also!

This may also be a ridiculous question, but does anyone know if letters of rec are required for dornsife transfer applicants? I have searched EVERYWHERE and letters of rec are never mentioned. Also, are academic evaluators the ones that write the letter of rec? Because like I said, I don’t think letters of rec are required for dornsife; however, the application says that 1 academic evaluator is required. Any response would be GREATLY appreciated.

@joshofftocollege Yes, academic evaluator = provider of letter of recommendation. It will say 1 academic evaluator is required, but I’ve been told by the office of admissions to just skip all of that registrar/evaluator stuff. So I assume that it is not needed even though it states that 1 evaluator is required.

@usc2usc

Well, I’ll only have 55 transferable credits because 9 won’t transfer to USC. So I’m applying as undecided. My second choice is neuroscience which is the school dornsife. I literally can’t wait to see the decision. I’ve been waiting too long already :

@joshofftocollege

you don’t need a letter of rec nor the registrar report. Those are required for high school applicants. Although, the letter of rec would be a bonus and should be on the app when you submit it. Also, they’ll ask for a mid-term report if they need it for future review (usually because they may consider you depending on the grades you make in the spring semester).

@usc2usc

Wow, thats impressive writing skills. Usually the essays have a MAJOR impact on your app. Some kids get in with gpa’s like 2.9 and 3.0s just by what they talk about. I worked hard on em and answered what they wanted to hear… for the most part haha.

What school are you applying to? and what major?

@Coolkid094

I assure you it sounds better than it is. I applied out of high-school and it wasn’t enough haha, that being said I had like a 3.3 from a private school and 2000 sat so not great.

I am applying to Annenberg as my first choice Broadcast Journalism and Dornslife as my second for Sociology, and yeah I’m dying to know this semester is going to kill me because I spend more time reading the 2013 thread and worrying about my application then I do making sure my grades are good this semester.

So how the hell do we do the registrar for multiple CCs?
